Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Two overdue cost cutting ideas

  1. At the IC level of the org, replace supervisors with team leads. Enable 4 to 6 ICs to report to a TL, with 3 or 4 TLs reporting to the (now slightly elevated) first line manager.
  1. Require each manager at higher levels to have an increasing number of direct reports over the textbook optimal number of 10. So if 10 first line managers report to a director then 11 directors should report to a VP and so on. After all, shouldn’t higher level managers be more capable of managing more direct reports, and shouldn’t higher level subordinates be more capable of managing themselves?

This could eliminate a lot of unnecessary management positions, save money, and make decision making more streamlined and efficient.

Most managers in Intel are people who are incapable of making any real contributions to the bottom line, as technical contributors.
Minorities quickly end up as managers because they are compulsorily given promotions but are unable to sustain the higher grade as tech contributors.
So they make their careers as paper pushers because they paper pushing at Intel justifies a higher grade while requiring no real skill :D

This will reward the people who caused the bloat of the company.

Re-arranging deck chairs on the titanic.

Intel’s problems are related to the business model. There is not enough PC volume to push process technology in leading edge nodes. No amount of management change can fix that as the PC market is saturated.

Foundry is the only way, but takes big bucks that Intel simply does not have.

You want people to actually do their job, what a concept, LOL.

I guess when the walled garden crumbles you need to work!
