Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Manager encouraging 4 days in office

Although technically we aren't required to do 4 days in office until January, our manager said it would look better on our Q3/4 and year end reviews if we started logging 4 days in office. It's bad enough I was hired as a full WFH employee but since I live 49 miles from an office I have to go I'm 4 days a week and if I don't it will effect my performance review. The worst part is my manager is full remote as well as other colleagues on my team. How is it fair that not going in the office 4 days this will effect my performance while others are sitting at home with no impact to their performance. I guess this is what they wanted because I am ready to quit soon as I find another job.

I feel ya. I've been coming in for 3 days a week since April while others are still complaining because they have to start on 9/4. The lack of consistency and expectations in each org on RTO is super maddening.

It's not fair. Here’s an idea. Refuse and let them fire you and then sue them

Yes, it is legal. In Texas, a person can record a conversation to which you are a party without violating wiretapping laws, so long as the other party is in a “one party consent” state. My EEOC contact confirmed this is okay and they often have cases supported with recorded information.

Send your manager an email to confirm what they told you and then use it against them.

I am not sure it is legal to record since I'm pretty sure USAA says conversations cannot be recorded. They definitely try to control information flow, which is why we must come together in numbers to tell the truth about what is happening. But, don't rely on me. Read what your employment contract says and what they post (not sure where). Play by the book on this one.

If you are in Texas, record he/she saying that. Then take to EEOC, Ethics, or to your HR person. They basically are threatening your performance rating for something that isn't even in effect until January.

It's no suprise that managers are now using employees as pawns to fullfill their RTO reports to looks good for their senior leaders.

I am in the same boat exactly like you.only me would be in office and entire team is remote fully.
Do whatever is best for you and your family. Bcz end of the day that’s what matters nothing else matters in your life.

Wow, so management is turning RTO into a VP boot polishing exercise to see which team gets them the shiniest. So high school and beyond pitiful. Will they incentivize this by giving each of us a tiny blue cake?

As for naming that RV, which VP is that? Most of the names I come up for the RV would be censored. So I'll submit "Morale Reduction Vehicle."

I would not expect "fair" wherever I work quite honestly. And I would start looking yesterday, because they are deliberately making your life more difficult. Attrition is the goal.

I have seen leaders require staff to RTO but themselves are remote. Zero sympathy as a leader. I wish you to find a better job elsewhere !

They want to have a presence without going in. So, they’ll encourage you to go in on behalf of the team.

Yeah, no. Is the extra mileage and gas and time worth the extra few hundred bucks in March?

This should tell you all you need to know about your manager and how little they care about you. Life is too short to work for jerks.
