Thread regarding USAA layoffs

THE LAST STRAW

So now I read that one of USAA’s third-party centers has exposed member information in a breach and I mean ALL information! I previously moved my major savings account from USAA and canceled my insurance because that was a train wreck but now I’m going to just effectively move everything and take it all to my credit union and do business with them because we don’t seem to have those issues with the credit union. I’ve been a member for 47 years and I guess I will remain a member but they will get none of my business any longer. I’m over it.

“ This has happened on a few occasions and also happens with every other financial institution. Even if we didn't have 3P doing it, we've had internal reps scraping CC info and selling to others or sharing with friends to commit fraud. Good luck finding a bank that has never had this….”

I see this type of answer on Reddit too and I have a problem with it. USAA isn’t supposed to be like every other bank, the reason most of us have stayed despite the dismal interest rates on accounts and the cr-ppy credit card is they’ve made an assload of promises about member security. The broad stroke of ‘just like everyone else’ feels like an excuse we should just shrug our shoulders at. Godda-n this bank su-ks.

While I was reading, the my sa.com article there was another link, revealing how a woman who worked for a third-party company, took USAA bank member information and sold it to another woman and that woman, along with another woman in Louisiana manage to defraud USAA bank customers of $100 million. And that was back in November 2022. I certainly don’t remember any press coverage on that and you would think that that would be incentive to stop all this third-party business but apparently not. I don’t feel that USAA has the common sense that God gave a gnat at this point . Very unfortunate.

My understanding, is a 3p (we’ll call them Sam) gave their credentials to someone not in the organization at all (Charlie). Sam had Charlie do their work for them, and had access to the normal things reps see.

This has happened on a few occasions and also happens with every other financial institution. Even if we didn't have 3P doing it, we've had internal reps scraping CC info and selling to others or sharing with friends to commit fraud. Good luck finding a bank that has never had this problem.

I've been dragging my feet on closing all my usaa account because its such a pain to track down all the autopays and linkages. But this is just the wake up call I needed.
