Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Why was GDIA untouched?

They have some of the most useless and technically incompetent people ive come across.

One thing to understand is that this customer data feeds directly back into understanding HOW our products are used and abused in the field. The better you understand what there're demanding in the field the easier it is to define requirements to design for it.

Not in GDIA, nor do I have particularly strong opinions on them specifically.
But it’s discouraging to see so many threads trash talking other departments, and laid off former colleagues.
Ultimately whether you work in GDIA or Dford or PD or wherever, Jim Farley and Bill Ford have screwed us all. Even the people you hated to work with, they’re now worried about how they’re going to keep paying their mortgage because the big guys at the top wanted to save a few bucks, with no regard for the livelihood of over a thousand of their supposed “family” members.
What I’m saying is, if the thing you really want to put out into this forum right now is “man I hope these people who annoyed me had their livelihoods yanked out from under them”, your priorities are backwards.
Honestly? If someone did a cr-ppy job and added no value while with Ford, good for them. Even the least competent GSRs in the least productive department at Ford create more value for the company than our buddies Jim and Bill.
How much of the value that you have created for Ford has made it back into your pocket? I would bet very little of it. If you were actually paid based on how much value you created for the company, Jim Farley wouldn’t be raking in multi million dollar annual bonuses while the company flounders. I personally wish I had tried less hard and done less for this company.

Data is the most significant feeder item into Ford's new future in mobility. Model e is the receiver and user of that data, which in turn adapts it to features and services that our customers will pay for. Thus it is wise to minimize any disruption to Model e and its support activities, data included.

@sok

Very few auto engineering areas can easily use their outputs, not enough resolution. If they go to departments, their people will be laid off next round.

GDIA needs to define their own destination to be spun off someday. Something useful like a designer chatbot with java robot. That we can sell to every small manufacturing companies worldwide for $50 per month.

I've seen them get data from 2 totally different areas (apples and oranges) and then try to come up with a real world analysis (which won't work). Then they'll wonder why their results are skewed.

GDIA has always considered itself better than and not a part of the Motor Company, yet funded by. They should be disbanded and rolled into the various departments they are supposed to serve, not "make dashboards because it's cool".

Just like every other area, some are probably highly proficient at what they do, others just had the right connections.

Whether they always add value is a different topic than whether Data Science is real. Trying to manage and manipulate very large data sets such as come from connected vehicles is a special area that requires special knowledge to do well.

Because the have bamboozled everyone. They even invented a new title for themselves, "Data Scientist" eye roll.
