From the linked article: "...Intel in its IDM 1.0 and 2.0 accounting slide shows that it is planning to show the businesses as two P&L’s. That is exactly what one would do before spinning off fabs."
Not necessarily. Ford just split into three separate P&L divisions: Ford Model E (EVs); Ford Blue (ICE vehicles), and Ford Pro (commercial trucks). Is Ford planning to spin off one or more of these businesses? Perhaps. But they could just as easily keep the three so that investors can see the progress of Model E (which is still losing billions), as well as the decline of Blue (in ten years, they won't be able to sell ICE vehicles in parts of the EU or California). That will help Ford justify its investments in Model E and mollify critics who don't want to invest in future technologies.
Intel is doing the same thing. Could we spin off IFS? Yes. Will we? Remains to be seen.

@brh+1nfuMppV You mean “managers and leaders of mfg” get a clue? Because ICs are doing their job. If the leaders can’t lead, what would you expect? You can’t expect pears from bushes or lemons from thorns…

It's sad and delusional to see posts from Mfg folks about how "product development is ki-ling us"!
Get a clue man!
Frankly nothing at the company is doing well(prod dev incl), but Mfg folks have been saying "We will be leadership in 2 years"...for the PAST 5+ YEARS!!
Get a clue man!
Why the F do you think customers are NOT lining up for "leadership in 2 years"?
So long as the inmates are running the Asylum in Mfg....there is truly no hope. It's sad.

Product development is ki-ling us cause upper management won't listen to boots on the ground and they kowtow to product groups who are not ready for NPI prime time. Not sure splitting intel will help in anyway. We lack great customer support and are not transparent and respectful of others. More scrambled eggs coming. Eat up until packages come later this year......

Anybody know how that might work out for shareholders? Does the stock split between manufacturing and whatever is left?

This has always been my suspicion, that Intel would spin off manufacturing to make a more profitable business out of it. Product development is slowing company growth.
