Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

These Mind Games Are Criminal

It's not ok to mentally abuse employees the way AT&T does. Anybody who defends their toxic management of this company is just in a contest with themselves to see how much cr-p they can stand.
The amount of stress these people are going through contemplating moving their families against their will to a place far away is too much.
And then to say it's not a way to make them quit ?. Karma's a bi--h and she's gonna get you Stankey.

All have choices: Conform, quit, or
retire. Unless you are giving orders, you are taking orders. As Bob Dylan said, “You got to
Serve someone “

It is cruel to actually have to work.

Poster who says, “simply a choice” either is insensitive, missed it completely or both

"People who say "It's simply a choice." are just so clueless." Dont understand this, clueless? Company is making changes, like it or not. If they give you the choice to move, thats your choice. I dont understand my most folks would move, but thats your call, nothing to do with me. Do whats best for you. What does the company owe any of us? Nothing. If T doesnt work out for you, or me, we all move on. We are all smart people, adapt and make it happen.

Notifications in my org went out first thing this morning, for this phase.

Good point. It may technically be a choice, but if both of your choices are cr-p, and will have devastating effects on your life, at least temporary, how are you supposed to feel ok about it?

Personally, I know what choice I'll be making. It's whichever gets me out of here sooner.

People who say "It's simply a choice." are just so clueless. It reeks of some fresh out of school econ major who has drunk the libertarian koolaid. It's as if all choices were good. Well heavily constrained choices in an unequal power situation offer nothing more than the appearance of choice.

A choice: cut off a leg or an arm. Some choices are not a choice.

Absolutely 100% agree. I was worried there’s be no severance. But now that I’ve been told there will be, but no relocation package….they’re LITERALLY paying people to go away. If they’d offer relocation it might have been ‘ok’. But doing it this way is like baseball teams that pay layers salary to go play elsewhere to clear payroll. Too bad AT&T doesn’t pay the people who do the work the millions that the id--ts at the top making these decisions do. So they’re resting easy, unfortunately!

No one is having to move against their will. It is simply a choice. If an employee has skill, there is no need to move. There are many other great opportunities out there external to T.
