I'm thinking that maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to subtly let the manager know that I'd like to be on the list for some of the next layoffs. Some people tell me that it is not the wisest idea. What do you think? I can no longer bear this pressure and I have decided that I will gladly accept a slightly worse offer just so I don't have to constantly think about whether I will be left without a source of income.

Unless you are 100 percent certain that you will be okay financially and can carry the weight without a severance package, I wouldn't do that. The company doesn't owe you anything unfortunately and it would make you a mark workwise.
Hahaha - my boss as like "Ok, I'll keep that in mind." Now I'm being targeted
Same. “Oh, no, you can’t leave, you’re a big part of the team, bla bla.” It means you’re getting everyone else’s work. But not their raises, or any raise or other benefit.
I’ve tried that. If you say you want to go, then they want you to stay. So, do the opposite, act like you desperately need the job and they’ll cut you.
I think the way to mentally flourish there is to not get emotionally involved with them at all. They will try to get you to tie your whole identity to the Mission and your career there, but it’s just a business transaction where you do work and they pay you. The mental shenanigans there, just swim right thru them while you build your skills and your nest egg for your real passion. Then when you go, it’s on your timing and terms.
You can ask. I have. I have also seen others do it at other organizations. I told them if there are anymore in our area I would like to volunteer to safe someone else’s role. I am not by a location so long term this place isn’t a fit. I will continue to work my a-s off as long as I am here.
I wasn’t so subtle about it. Now I’m being targeted.
What’s stopping you from finding a new opportunity for peace of mind? You have options. J/S.
How do you subtly tell someone you want to be laid off?

Sounds like an effective way to be written out of a job. Unless the company specifically asked for volunteers, do not offer to be involved in a layoff.
I went to another job and have been so much happier. I couldnt imagine sitting there another year just waiting like an id--t for my walking papers when the only thing that I can control I didnt do.
There’s no volunteer list
