“ In many organizations there is not an area manager, there is an associate Director instead. Same level and type of position different title.”

“May be still a lvl2, though not same level. More responsibility, higher pay, and a 13% rather than 11% bonus.”

Associate Director is a vanity title used to make Area Managers feel like they got promoted.

Area Managers and Associate Directors are both level 2 supervisors and both have a 13% bonus structure. Some AD titles make more and some make less than Area Managers depending on their role. Technical titles make a higher salary.

“Associate Director- Project program management” makes less than an “Area Manager Network Services”.

“ He is the only one doing this job”

This is a failure by the Director. He or she should he held accountable.

A coworker of mine was notified his job was eliminated. His Director did not know. He is the only one doing this job, but currently resides 2.5 hours from hub. Makes no sense! Now we will have to backfill

L2s with direct reports are AMs. There are tons of them that have “management” employees below them (L1andL2) in the Network side.

Yes, they have the list of folks being surpluses this week. There is always a ranked list of employees at the AM and Director level. Sometimes HR uses that list and sometimes they don’t. I have heard that this round, HR did their own thing when picking the Tributes .. oh, I mean surplussies.

"Area managers" are not told whom to surplus. L2 supervisors are given and number and told they must meet it. Always has, always will be. Anybody above a director barely knows the names of the people in their org.

Most management doesn't have "Area Managers" - so unless OP is talking about a craft surplus, it's the union troll.
