Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Why isn’t intel selling of the graphics group

Intel tried several times but failed to take off the graphics group

Why don’t we sell it off and save few billions

We can’t seem to develop good graphics products .

Provide technical information so a avg joe can understand

Intel doesn't sell its GFX group because nobody would buy it. As simple as that.

Not in graphics, but arc a770 is good for gamers on a budget. Lots of people got into gaming during the pandemic. Look at how much the ps5 pro will cost - almost as much as a gaming PC.

Regarding the HPC TAM - it was more like 35 USD Billion in 2021 all included, according to the Hyperion/IDC studies. Server revenue (incl. any GPGPUs involved) is abut USD 15 Billion - rest rest comes from Storage, Applications & Services, and Cloud computing revenue.

USD 150 Billion is a total pipe dream for HPC.

Because Intel is a "Me Too" company that aspires to be like AMD and Nvidia.

Intel probably wants to stay in the GPU business to compete in the parallel processing(streaming processors) market since data science and all the relevant buzzwords are hot topics... AI, Machine Learning, etc...

Intel Data Center Group is place were all good ideas are ZBB'd. SR will put GFX to final rest. Who'd buy it anyway? The eulogy is ready.

Reason is that HPC is a $150B TAM that both Nvidia and AMD are going after. There is not much revenue in Gaming or Workstation GPUs but it’s a volume part meant to foster ISV engagements and brand recognition.

Intel cannot afford to approach Data Center customers without a CPU+GPU pairing. Nvidia is doing the same with their Grace Hopper ARM pairing
