I live 53 miles away from a branch office and none of the coworkers I interact with work there so I would still have to use zoom

Nope. Like the rest of us that were lied to by these a-s backwards, soulless, greedy, billy goat di-k wrinkles, your offer of a remote position was nothing more than subjective bullsh-t. So plan in being back in the office or quitting and finding a new job.
One Cosa is approving exceptions for people that live between 50 and 60 miles from the office.
I'll preface this by saying I'm as pi---d off about RTO as everyone else. Remote work is literally in my job offer, but the company doesn't have to hold up its end of the bargain apparently.
But it's really interesting to see the five stages of grief play out in real time.
Denial: There's no way this is actually happening. The company promised me remote work. There's no way they'd go back on their word.
Anger: Wayne and the EMG are awful people, I hate them, they're liars, etc. Plenty of posts on here expressing anger (and rightfully so).
Bargaining: Maybe I'll get an exception. Maybe the company will back track. Maybe my case is special. Maybe they'll realize they're making a mistake.
Depression: How am I going to afford childcare? This is going to take away so much time in my day. There's no point to this.
Acceptance: I'm going to be in the office three days a week starting in September.
All of this was planned for. Wayne and the EC knew that they were going to get massive blow back and that they were going to stand strong no matter what. It's also probably part of why the time between announcement and enforcement was so long: give people a time to come to terms with it and "get over it."
It's rather sickening and opportunistic of them to do these layoffs and RTO changes in a down job market. Wayne is nothing if not calculated. It's almost sociopathic.
As others noted, zero chance. We were told even child care/care giver exceptions were being denied. Unless you have a FMLA/jar, you are not getting an exception.
Not a chance. Exceptions are being denied even if there's no possibility of business interaction at the office. Also, 53 < 60, so no.
unless you have some kind of valid, documented reason (caregiver, disabled) then probably not
