Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Is USAA really as bad we're making it out to be?

I've been giving this a lot of thought lately and was faced with an important question: Is USAA really as bad we're making it out to be?

Yes, it is. The answer is yes, it really is that bad.

Well, no one is trying to ki-l me with a roadside bo-b or lobbing mortars at me, so there's that I suppose.

I just recently left after a decade, and it breaks my heart to see how bad its become. The culture has just been burnt to the ground. Like someone already said it's like being in a relationship with a narcissist. To me, it's like being with a narcissist, who is gaslighting you. I wasn't growing and while my current job isn't roses and sunshine, it's honest and not constantly trying to sell me on a culture that no longer exists

It is really bad. I have worked at great banks as well as bad ones but the culture at USAA is the worst. We have execs hiring more execs under them so that they can grow their own empires. No consideration that we are spending the members money. No accountability at the EMG level.

You realize how bad it is even more so when you leave. My new position outside of USAA made me realize I was doing the work of 2 - 3 people. Can’t say the grass is greener in every situation, but it is in most. It’s so much better not living in constant fear! USAA should change its core values from honesty, loyalty, integrity, and service to accountability, fear, metrics, and attrition.

I have been at several companies and experienced some of the best and worst of times at these companies. What makes me consider USAA as the worst of the worst is that they lie as they smile through their teeth, trying to convince you the whole way down that they are so awesome.

I was married to a narcissist, and this experience reminds me of that.

I left USAA and have zero regrets. Like the ex-marriage, I chose reality and to NOT be driven insane by passive-aggressive narcissistic abuse. I am finding much better out in the "real world".

I would love to say it isn't but having been here as long as I've have been, I can say that it is. People are scared, confused, overworked, burned out, being asked to do more and more with less and less with the constant fear of layoff over their heads. The employee experience is not considered in decisions, we are continuing to pump money into failing projects that are costing us millions as well as the well being of the people doing the work. We are losing sight of what made USAA special and are going back on promises made to employees and members to be better. There used to be trust in the leadership and now it is an all but "have to laugh to keep from crying" everytime a message is delivered (if it gets delivered at all)

In November it will be 13 years for me, all in the bank. When I started, it was like everyone had said, a joyous place to work (yes, even the call center). The first small sign started in Jan 2016, and then 2017 was when Stuart Parker placed blame on the frontline folks by saying “we’re just not getting it done on the frontlines, our msr’s need to step it up.” Which p/o a lot of frontline msr’s and managers. Then Dec 2018, things really started to change and then hit the fan with CFPB & OCC in Jan 2019, and it’s gotten worse everyday since.
Fast forward to today, those days seem like Disneyland compared to what is going on now.

"Try being across from an enemy trying to destroy you day in and day out while you try and do your job."

Some of us are living that right now! Unless you are referring to a literal hail of gunfire or grenades being lobbed.

Been here many years, and the last five have been the worst I've ever seen. However, my answer is no. There are still worse places out there. It's all relative to each employee's individual experience.

Try being across from an enemy trying to destroy you day in and day out while you try and do your job. This place is Shangri-La after what some of us have lived through. If you spend a lot of time on this site, take a few moments to review what other similar companies are like.

It doesn't make it right, but it provides perspective.

No there are worse places to work, such as one of USAA’s 3rd Party Call Centers.

Charlotte employee here. I’ve worked for about 6 other Banks before coming here. Everywhere has its share of incompetence, leaders placed on nepotism, shrinking benefits, micromanaging, blame shifting, and overloading people til they quit. What really sets USAA apart is the complete lack of growth opportunities, the weird “holier than thou” attitude and the blatant lying touts employees.

Bank of America and Wells knew they su-ked and just sort of owned it top to bottom.

The doublespeak about being inclusive of all opinions in a politically contentious time is the most toxic of all. I would prefer to be at a company where they aggressively pushed a political agenda I disagreed with - OPENLY - than a company like USAA that says one thing and does the opposite.

I have been at USAA for 16+ years now. It is unequivocally as bad as i have ever seen it. There are many people in my dept, that were USAA lifers and were gonna retire here, that just cant stand it anymore and are actively looking elsewhere. Its that bad.
