Thread regarding Alteryx layoffs

Question for those laid off in the past (or friends of them)

Did Alteryx honor the CA Warn List legal requirement to provide at least 2 months severance since they didn’t provide 60 days notice of prior to layoffs?

Reminder, you can have a labor attorney look at the severance package and termination letter before you sign anything. Most will do this on the basis of if it’s a class action then that’s when they take the pay out. It could be worth it if you feel like they’re being shady

I’m in CA and was part of the 11% RIF in April. It was pretty clear they made a mistake and were not planning to adhere to the CA WARN act. Everything was a little delayed compared to my teammates in TX. They eventually did end up paying me as a regular employee with my regular insurance for 60 days to satisfy the WARN act. This also allowed my stock to vest mid-June. Then I received the 4 week severance after June 30th for having been there a year and they paid for COBRA through August.

I also had a deal close the day of layoffs and they paid me out on that too. It was pretty clear they f’ed up. My teammate in TX was terminated immediately and received the 4 weeks of severance.

Each state has a different WARN act and my guess is they learned their lesson from April from the Q2 earnings call. It’s a total sh!t show. I hope this helps offer some clarity although it sounds like it might be a different situation this time around. I know I came out lucky and I feel for all of you going through this now.

I was part of the 11% RIF at the end of April. Individual separation terms varied by state of residency and tenure but in my case the company did provide 2 months (4x pay periods) salary as part of the severance package. They also sponsored COBRA benefits for 90 days (May/June/July), which I thought was generous. Considering how the company is struggling now, I feel lucky to have been shoved off the train before it completely derailed.

For the April layoffs, NY employees were protected under WARN. It was over the threshold by 1 employee. Judging by the comments here, California employees were not covered. I don’t know about the federal rules. Regardless, it seems they are purposefully dodging WARN and minimizing severance payouts by doing “rolling” layoffs, since WARN (typically) triggers based on jobs cut in a 30 day period.

I was there for 10 months and only got 3 weeks . Had I known about the WARN act I would have questioned...

Package details for the April RIF are posted on sharepoint. Search for reduction in force and it should come up. To me, it looked like people got minimum 4 weeks. How did AYX cover the remaining 4 weeks required per the CA Warn regulations for people who were only at AYX for a year?

No, technically they did not. They were JUST short of it. But it was enough to scrape by without causing any lawsuits. Very craftily executed. This layoff will be more of the same, but they will be extending it and rolling thundering it over the next few months so that they don't have to report numbers anywhere.
