Start New Job While Waiting for Severance

Is anyone going to start a new job while waiting for severance? Is it possible to manage the month or so of overlap?

Its called overemployed and there are websites to guide you. Dont tell anyone and give the new job your attention. Easy if you are remote. If not use PTO.

Certainly search while waiting for the end. In fact, start your search now, even if you were spared this last round of layoffs.

However, any new job might not be very pleased to learn their new hire is also still on staff at a different company. Trying to start a new position while waiting out the clock on T is a sure way to end up losing two jobs at one time.

If you're already let go and just waiting for the severance check there's nothing to stop you from getting another job.

If you're still on the payroll then the second job can't be a conflict of interest or interfere with your AT&T schedule. You can burn through your vacation time to do the second job if you want.

It's that simple.

How long does it take to get severance?

I have never received severance before. Never been laid off before. If we find a job before the 6 months is up, does that mean T doesn’t have to pay, like alimony? How would they know? Isn’t that the same as working another job while still employed?

As long as both employers and your supervisors are aware of your schedule, there's nothing wrong or illegal about having two W-2 jobs. I'm currently on the clock and using vacation, evenings, and weekends to do my AT&T job, with approval, while my full day is devoted to my new employer. Your supervisor may or may not allow it.

You can go go work for whomever you want after you leave but do not work for a contractor or come back to AT&T until the allotted time is up. I think it was 90 conttactor-180 days company max.

Might as well. Why wait for the severance to kick in. T isn’t doing you any favors, so there’s no need to do them one.

I would say don’t do it. Be careful if it’s a conflict of interest
