Thread regarding Aetna layoffs

A long line of catastrophic mistakes...

20+ year Aetna employee here.

Ever since CVS has taken over the company we have seen one bad decision after another. It truly seems like they have no ability to make positive changes, only ones that harm employees, members, and our provider relationships but, somehow, increase our 'fiscal goals".

Many of us are quietly hoping our name is on the layoff-list. We look on the job board every day knowing, no matter where we go, it will be more of the same nonsense.

While the prospect of being laid-off is scary, the anxiety is no different than our morning drives into a job that is soaked in chaos, frustration, meaningless changes, opressive metrics, and endless corporate bobble heading. Wish me luck. Wish my team luck.

Either way this goes I'm at peace with the layoffs because this place is just terrible.

Mark threw Aetna under the bus. He should have bought out cvs not the other way around. Or simply stop buying out other companies and focus on our own. i used to feel proud to say I worked for Aetna and now it’s just become a leftist, elitist company who doesn’t give a cr-p about their employees. While Karen makes her 23 million in bonuses. She’s letting go the very people who put their heart soul and life into the company. Karma is a b I’m gonna sit back and wait to see her demise also. She needs to go.

I wasn’t ashamed to tell people that I worked for Aetna, but now, I try and avoid all discussion of work outside of it. Queen Karen and her royal court have drive employee moral into the mud.

I think some of the comments here are speculation such as the comment that layoffs will be done annually. There's been no formal decisions from Senior Management to that effect. It would be beneficial if those posting would name their sources on such topics.

Sadly, Aetna has never recovered with Mark leaving and Karen taking over. 10+years with Aetna and now this CVS Aetna company is unrecognizable. No transparency, marred with progressive ovatures to the government and horrible strategy. We're a mess because of Karen and the current leadership. Layoffs are back and will be annual.

I feel the same way. I've also worked at Aetna for 20 years. If it's me, just give me the severance package and I'll find a better job.

It won’t be fun for those left either. They will be doing the work of 3 people to make up for jobs eliminated for positions that won’t be refilled. Some may be wishing they took early retirement or got a big severance pay and try to get another job. When I was layed off from aetna we had notice to prepare and continued to work for about 8 weeks. I looked for another job during those eight weeks and was fortunate to find one and collect severance package

I couldn’t imagine being a 20 year employee, only to see everything burn to the ground at the end. I’m sure you saw Aetna go through many changes, met amazing people throughout your tenure, and basically grew up at the company, while experiencing many life changes. I’m sorry that everything is crumbling now! I know it su-ks.

If this response was valid and of reasonable importance to the psyche of the staff, the choice to take early retirement or a severance package would be offered prior to layoff announcements.
Then those with the deep desire to be free of this ridiculous company could go and enjoy their truly stress-free recovery.
Everyone sees it for what it is and no one is fooled by the flowery words. The expensive-people (over 40's) will be cut, and the cheap labor (under 35's) will be kept.

The Kept-Ones will be told they're special while being bullied daily into mediocre performance for low wages and no bonuses by leadership that is senile, smug, and out of touch.

It's the same old story...

I'm sure more than half the workforce has dropped to 30% production while they look for a better company.

I've heard the same from friends and family who are long-term CVS &/or Aetna employees.

From personal experience with different employers, I fully understand how the anxiety and stress of a layoff pale in comparison to those of dealing with a dysfunctionally mismanaged organization on a daily basis.

I sincerely hope that workers not affected by this round of cuts are able to effectively (and safely) manage the job challenges that inevitably lie ahead.

In an abstract way, enhanced by obvious systemic operational shortfalls, those displaced now are apt to have a less-stressful career recovery than those left to take up the slack.

Regardless, my thoughts are with everyone affected.
