I am a little surprised by those who say that they are not worried at all about whether they will be laid off or not. The reason is that I have been trying to find a new job for a very long time and I still haven't been able to get one. Do you really think that the market is much better right now or are you just fed up with this job here?

You never know why some people may not be worried. Some may feel safe from layoffs. Others are really good at job hopping. Some people just downplay things and are okay with more uncertainty.
Its a hard thing, but as an employee I don't think you should ever feel 100% safe from an impending layoff. You really never know the types of cuts that will be employed. Its rarely down to just factors as simple as performance and tenure.
Also not everyone is 100% reliant on this job to survive. So for those people a load of stress is gone, if they are close to retirement or are cool with a long lapse in employment because they are basically FIRE or have a high earning spouse.
For those of us who do rely on having this job or something equivalent, I agree it is a very stressful time to possibly be on a chopping block. I am hopeful there will be a hiring rebound next spring, so even if the worst happens and its hard to find good jobs, that pain shouldn't last more than maybe 6 months.
There are a lot of people looking for jobs right now. It’s hard to get an interview. Don’t get laid off.
