Thread regarding USAA layoffs

C U L T U R E

You don’t need any more money.

You are already being paid at 50% of market rate. OMG I’m so glad they didn’t aim for 25% market rate for your title!!!

Repeat after me:
I am happy to take 50% of what I’m worth
I don’t need money. I can make sacrifices and scrape by so others can get their mansion built.
My family can survive on culture.
Culture.
Culture!
All you need to survive is C U L T U R E

You are insulting Mcdonalds by comparing USAA with them. For all Saturday night work, I am getting $30 paid before tax. If I would have worked in Mcdonalds, would be around $80 ($10 * 8 hours )

These are after the mid-review. It's getting harder to get those because the manager has to really fight for you, and most of the time you only get it for optics. The department will push back extensively on it, so the final number will be small.

And pension, HA! What a joke.... 3 years of "service" to get maybe $100 a month is not worth it. The pension is 3% of your base pay. It replaced Retirement+ which was one of the best retirement programs in the country - now THAT was a world class benefit that was 90% +. But of course, Wayne culled it and then they replaced it with a pi-s-poor pension.

I feel like HR is responding the majority of these unpopular responses. Just stop. People are earnestly trying to help, and you're focusing on the same rhetoric that the company is doing.

USAA is not top 90% in the industry for benefits. You must be smoking crack ( or drinking Wayne's koolaid lol) they are 50-60% at best. Many companies also pay way more base now plus you have to drag your sorry a-s in 4 days a week vs 3 or 2 days in most other places. Remote workers have zero future here also.

Wait, who is handing out these pay bumps and what are they for?

Agree with the person saying OP just doesn’t get it. It’s not “50% of market rate,” it’s targeting 50th percentile of the salary range for your particular role pays in our industry. Half of people out there in our industry may get paid more, half get paid less. And our benefits are 90th percentile plus. Always been that way. Besides, your “worth” (at work) is what someone will pay you to do your job. If you think you’re worth more, go find a job that pays you more for the same work. Whether you do or don’t find one, you’ll have your answer about what you’re worth in the market.

As someone getting a pay bump this Sunday, it’s pitiful. It’s 4-5%. Not worth it compared to inflation or even the market/forced RTO.

Asked manager about salary since it’s in the 25% - was told that the most he could do was get to the midpoint since that was the goal. Midpoint is pitifully below what other companies in NC pay.

Total compensation has fallen. Other companies have caught up to the 401K contribution or exceeded it. Retirement+ is gone. And the medical coverage/dental is pitifully low and you’ll pay out of pocket even with the lower premium from limeade.

USAA does not have a competitive salary or total compensation. Perhaps for San Antonio, but definitely not for NC and other areas where the COL is higher.

At this point, the only ones who will be left are the people close to retirement and new grads looking for experience. Everyone else is leaving.

You must not really be a top performer then. There is always room in the budget for pay bumps. Trust. It’s happening across the enterprise. In fact many employees getting pay bumps effective this Sunday. Maybe you’ll be on the list next time.

“Nothing stopping anyone from asking for a pay raise. Employees are getting out of cycle pay adjustments all of the time.”

LOL you make it sound like they are handing it out like free cookies. Yup I got the run around and then come promotion I was only a handful away from making the cut yet again. Maybe next time and maybe next time again. Out of band cycle pay adjustments? Almost never happens. Get real even top performers are jumping ship.

"This isn’t honest. The company pays a very competitive salary and total compensation package"

Compared to who Mcdonalds? I just left there a few months ago and made a base 25% more and total benefits package is almost the exact same.

This isn’t honest. The company pays a very competitive salary and total compensation package. There is no one in the enterprise with a 50% compa ratio. Please don’t believe this. If you are an active employee, I encourage you to ask your manager about your pay and compa ratio (base salary / midpoint of salary range) to understand how well you are paid to market. Nothing stopping anyone from asking for a pay raise. Employees are getting out of cycle pay adjustments all of the time.
