Thread regarding Riverbed Technology Inc. layoffs

I honestly don't know how long I can last...

Started here less than a year ago, and trying to make it to a year mark but man it is difficult. Had I known what I was getting into, I wouldn't have jumped ship from my last place to this, but as somebody who came from a place that ran like a well oiled machine most of the times, this way things are ran here are just so glaringly amateur. Things I noticed:

  • Why would the merge Riverbed sales reps who've never sold Aternity to now sell Aternity and have no idea where to start?
  • This goes into the next point; why isn't ELT working together across marketing, sales, product, etc when that happened to ensure people got up to speed on Aternity basics
  • - Another thing; marketing seems to be he-l bent on putting out public facing materials for stuff that is still not even in beta. It's like they didn't learn from the whole IQ issue. YOU SELL WHAT IS ON THE TRUCK!
  • Letting go the VP of Product who has been here for 20 years and could paint the picture of the company vision better than Dan Smoot could have was a head scratcher.

As somebody who isn't more than a layer or two from ELT and seeing what they've been asking for lately (via my own management requests) it just seems like even the new players don't know what to do with what and will probably make it up as they go.

I don't believe for a second that IQ brings in more than it costs.

The new CEO, DD has failed to clean house. RT and his minions are delusional. The total annual revenue from Alluvio IQ couldn’t buy you a cheap house in San Jose. The lack of decent leadership is appalling but not surprising because how could they recruit good people to this place? It’s dying. They don’t want to pay California salaries. The place is in a death spiral. Circling the drain….whatever metaphor you prefer. It’s too late. Break it up for parts. Nuke it from orbit…it’s the only way to be sure…..

Your focal review? Now worthless because of new ownership and pushed till end of year. Your performance the last two years is wasted, so don’t expect promotions or pay raises. Leadership at all levels have been asked to shelf all talks. If you still have some talent, save yourself and walk away now.

That “yet” implies IQ will ever be ready. The team has no interest in or aptitude for interoperability. Pre-IQ they struggled to work with Portal even though that was entirely in-house, then they threw all that work away with no plan for even getting back to baseline of what we had. All for no good reason, just that Portal was a PJ product and AR hated PJ and “knew” he could do better.

At every stage they showed arrogance and stupidity, but they talked a good game and Tworek ate it up like a hound dog that found a still-steaming tu-d. I don’t care how much of a “Dream Team” they pretend to be, they’re complete fools who wasted a ton of money and opportunity and produced nothing useful while also disrupting all the other products, driving away good devs, and dumping on sales for not being able to sell this junk. IQ isn’t a stillbirth, it’s a backalley coathanger abortion.

IQ is not ready yet, and not integrated with the remaining products as it does not provide any 3rd party integration. IQ is a stillbirth.

I'm not the OP, but Riverbed looks good from the outside. If the company can fool multiple private equity firms into flushing tens of millions of dollars down the Alluvio toilet, don't be too hard on individual people who think it might be a decent place to work.

Riverbed has been dying for years. Why on earth did you come here in the first place?

At this point you might as well wait and see if the new CEO can improve things at all (I seriously doubt it, unless he cleans house in eng), but it wouldn’t hurt to get your resume out there - I think prospective employers will understand “change of ownership and leadership” as an impetus to look around, even without sharing that you’re fleeing a trash fire.

What's the whole IQ issue you're talking about? Care to share?
