TSMC announces $2.9 billion investment in advanced chip plant in Taiwan

Interesting. I wonder if they are worried about a china takeover or maybe they just really love the conditions that enable them to take advantage of their workers - long hours and mediocre pay.

"In "Chip War" they state that TSMC is essentially an arm of the Taiwanese government. Funded and controlled by that government."

something does not add up, these are polar opposites

does Taiwan have a free market or not

It’s really the CCP against the Taiwanese, the Taiwanese and their government don’t want a war. It is actually one sided, the Taiwanese military is only there to defend, not attack.

In "Chip War" they state that TSMC is essentially an arm of the Taiwanese government. Funded and controlled by that government. So why wouldn't they continue to grow in Taiwan?

"Why wouldn’t they invest in their homeland? I mean, wouldn’t you?"
Are you kidding? The US or wall street does not invest in its homeland.

"2 governments at war doesn’t mean the people are at war."
What imaginary people do those governments represent then.
Once China takes over Taiwan, you can kiss tsmc goodbye. It will still manufacture semiconductors but not as well which is a plus for intel. :-)

Why wouldn’t they invest in their homeland? I mean, wouldn’t you? China and Taiwan have been at this stage for over 50 years. 2 governments at war doesn’t mean the people are at war.

Nah, they just figure they can get cheap US capacity at an Intel fire sale.

it looks like tsmc made a decision based on

corruption and stability of US
vs
corruption and stability of China

and chose China

I have never seen a county like the US go down the toilette so fast.
It looks like the US told Rome hold its beer and it will show Rome how to collapse faster.

Who cares. In 10 years, that fab will belong to China and be restricted from exporting to the US and Europe.

Their pay is good for living in Taiwan. Coming to the US doesn't make any economic sense. Taiwanese understand China. They are not stupid and corrupt, like the Ukrainians. It's going to be business as usual.
