Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Being smart at this place is a liability

Sounds like you are too smart for USAA. 10 years ago, maybe even 5 years ago, you would have progressed quickly, and your skills would have been utilized to enhance and improve the work and member experience. But now, in the new USAA, you considered a threat by your less skilled, less talented, unaccomplished “manager” and their bosses.

This is sad but true. Being smart and hardworking has become a liability at USAA. You’ll get more work but no rewards. Plus, they’ll make sure to keep you exactly where you are to continue to make them look good without being a threat. It su-ks, but it is what it is.

It is a problem when an IT person (A stupid person that knows nothing about business. ) challenges the decisions of a non-IT executive. That can get you bagged if you get too aggressive.

It is also stupid to say an Exec is stupid.

And, once an exec has made a decision, it is stupid for continuing to challenge.

So being smart isn’t the real problem. Bring too stupid to shut up is.

The Dunning–Kruger affect is very much in place. The Dunning-Kruger affect is when people with low ability, expertise, or experience WILDLY overestimate their ability to do the work of a specialist. Like a psychiatrist suddenly charging into the operating room, grabbing the scalpel in their ungloved, unwashed hand and saying, “I’m going to finish this quadruple bypass.” When the board-certified cardiologist with decades of experience objects, they shriek, “I’m your boss! You’re being insubordinate!”…and so, of course, the patient dies. The psychiatrist then goes to the family and says, “that cardiologist just ki-led your loved one.” This happens to me EVERY FU----G DAY.

100% True. The smart, hardworking employees get more work, zero recognition, stuck in their current roles, punished with RTO, pulled away from current responsibilities to tackle fires created by another's ineptitude while still being held accountable for completing their normal work, and now have begun to be micromanaged to the point being completely demoralized.

On the other hand, the d-mb as--s, kiss as--s, no talent a-s clowns, and low skilled lazy narcissists get promoted into positions they are vastly unqualified for while being recognized and rewarded for accomplishing insignificant nonsense that has zero impact on the mission.

The new USAA is completely upside down and a-s backwards.
