Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Will We See Another 8/1 Mass Layoff?

The first of August is near. Morale is still low. Will we see big cuts again?

Godspeed to us all.

Received my paycheck on Saturday the 29th. US payroll calendar says pay date is the 31st. Anyone else get the same? Could an early payroll be a sign of anything?

Can you renew medications; visit the dentist; or get glasses on the 31st?

Also would line up nicely for anyone that has supplemental RSUs vesting in late September.

Yea funny how that works out. Kinda like Lucy with the football.

No job is safe from layoffs in the IT industry. Amazon, Google, Microsoft, etc all layoff tens of thousands a year.

the tech sector has always been like this, at least for the past 40 years. I remember one software company I worked for in the late 80's had a record year, I mean all 4 quarters set records, and then the following year they were cutting salaries 10% across the board because things turned to dung so fast (the genius VP of engineering decided to release their flagship product with more holes in it than a wheel of swiss cheese). The following year they were bought out. Me? I left about 2 months after they cut my pay. They were shocked. They offered to match my salary, but then cut it by 10% so I'd still be making less. They were actually indignant I didn't take that deal.

Some things just never change.

No conspiracy and you know that. No facts will be listed here.

I’m thinking 9/1 or week of 9/4. Interesting this year that the losers of the stacked ranking review game were not given pips but we’re informed to find a new internal role by the end of August. When asked what happens on 9/1 they were told tbd. Also would line up nicely for anyone that has supplemental RSUs vesting in late September.

Ummm....better send Happy Birthday greetings to Biggest Boss now just in case you are cut off from email before the 17th. Remember time difference. :)

IF and ONLY IF you have new job offer, send "Happy 79th Birthday! You Look Great Considering" greetings before giving notice. ;)

"Doubtful- they usually wait until the quarter ends to evaluate and then come October- start the cutting."

That wasn't the case 1 year ago at all. August was THE big one.

Doubtful- they usually wait until the quarter ends to evaluate and then come October- start the cutting. "Big" one being November- so that the books look clean entering into Q3. My two cents on the complete guessing game!

Oracle’s competitors are proof. They have cleaned up higher salaried positions and are dealing with those that have taken advantage of Corps.

I think those are just downvotes of the guy who obsessively cries/posts about some percieved injustice imposed by an Oracle management in Fl or Ga etc

Interesting the # of down votes for justice. There is only proof of one person.
This could make it easy to find others.

Will We See Another 8/1 Mass Layoff?
  • The bad news: yes we will, just like Aug last year
  • The good news: 100% guaranteed you're on the list. Shareholders are pleased.

I’ve been saving up for over a year just in case I’m unlucky. I’ll probably be unemployed for quite a while with this bad market.

Plenty of jobs in the food service and housekeeping industries.

No job is safe from layoffs in the IT industry. Amazon, Google, Microsoft, etc all layoff tens of thousands a year. They are no better than Oracle. If you don't have the stomach for it get into the healthcare field.
