Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Question about applying internally

anyone know if your manager gets notified in any way if you apply internally to another position? Been at USAA for a little over 1.5 years as a software engineer and frustrated with my current role

Hopefully you have a supportive manager. I’ve been blocked from leaving by my manager who called the hiring manager and screamed at them for trying to hire me. Also known others who were not hired because people didn’t want to rub their current boss the wrong way.

Not unless you get an interview, but who cares. The only jobs worth applying for are outside of the Death Star.

It use to notify upon submission, but since last year they are only notified if you schedule an interview. So, once the recruiter contacts you, notify your leader that you've applied for another position and interviewing.

I'm hoping you have a leader that will support you wanting to move - some aren't so great and others will help you get where you want/need to go.

Your manager is only notified if you get selected for an interview. That change went took place in late 2021. It use to be every time you applied, your manager got a notification, each time you’d hit submit on a posting.

I recently was laid off from USAA and the manager used to receive a notice as soon as the employee applied for another position. They changed it last year (I think) so that the manager only gets notified once you get an interview. As someone else stated, once the status changes in OneSource to Interview in Progress, your manager will be notified.

As a former leader at USAA, I would always recommend that you give your manager a heads up when you apply. They shouldn't treat you any differently and you can always word it in a way that you are looking for a new challenge or something like that.

interviewed internally a lot. used to be that they would know as soon as you submitted, but now it's once you get to the interview stage. last manager only got notified when i got to the final round.

definitely talk to the manager after applying/before to be nice and explain that it's to grow your career/self development.

@loy+1nHUSXUF is correct. It changed towards the beginning of the year. Only if you are moved to interviewing status will it notify your manager.

They are only notified if your status changes in OneSource to show that you are interviewing. They no longer receive an email upon applying for a role.

It’s not a bad thing if your manager gets that notification. I would suggest talking to them before you hit the submit button and just tell them you’re looking at opportunities and give them two or three reasons why you’re looking for another position, but keep the reasons positive. i.e. learn new technical skills, learn a new part of the business, “I’ve always been interested in x, y, or z so I’d like to try it”

Before you hit submit, it makes you acknowledge that your manager will get a notification
