Every time I hear rumors about layoffs, I am disappointed primarily because I know that all the effort I invested here is not really important if they decide to get rid of me. How does a person fell who's worked hard while knowing that he shares the same likelihood of getting on the list as any other lazy slacker out there? - Very disappointed. The fact that adding value is not valued here creates enormous anxiety.

The majority of the people getting laid off weren’t lazy slackers, numbnuts, they were some of the smartest, hard working people in the company. They were also tenured which meant The Peacock could replace them with cheaper (but less knowledgeable) workers.
This is corporate America. It doesn’t matter if you work 100 hours a week, drink the kool-aid, and polish the Peacock, when some no talent a-s clown executive looking at a spreadsheet decides it’s your turn to hit the unemployment line, you’ll be gone, just as quickly as the lazy slacker that plays games on their phones, takes three hour lunches, and always finds an excuse not to work. You’re both numbers in the corporate layoff lottery.
I’ll gladly volunteer to be laid off, I’ll take my 12 months severance and go work at another local bank for the same pay and less stress.
I will happily volunteer as tribute and take severance on place of someone who wants to stay
When you no longer feel valued it is a good indicator that it is time to move on. USAA has no loyalties to anyone and will cut you quicker than a blink of an eye. The grass is greener away from the toxic environment there. I am glad I was laid off. Took their nice severance and am much happier in my new place of employment!
Of course they are. Over 50 are more likely to push back. Greater experience means more pay.
Are they targeting over 50?!?!? Wouldn’t surprise me.
Are you over 50? Because if so, there’s no way you’ll be kept, no matter how hard you work. You’re old! Over the hill! Get on that ice floe, grandpa.
What gets me is how it is MORE likely I will get laid off than it is the “lazy slackers” are. Those will probably be the ones they will keep, because while they may be lazy, most are also su-k ups.
