AT&T Building services & maintenance manger Layoffs

The recent AT&T building service managers layoff has resulted in them being contracted out with only a couple of exceptions. Any in your area? We’ve had a few in the SE, not sure of the exact number.

Restrooms and building cleanliness was terrible before they were laid off, now it’s worse. Multiple tickets have been made for the Central Offices and offices to have restrooms cleaned and restocked but to no avail. They just close the tickets and try to wear one down to stop placing them. It’s disgusting, the toilets aren’t brushed or cleaned, have overflowing waste baskets and no soap or toilet paper most of the time. Not my job but I’ve swept buildings, emptied trash cans, cleaned restrooms and restocked supplies but without ongoing maintenance they quickly return to their previous condition.

A lot of Central Office locations are shown as unmanned and only get a quarterly visit if that even happens. There is no such thing as unmanned because contractors, RTO managers, outside techs and CO ET’s that need to do routines and other work there, so the facilities are always being used. I’ve addressed this with building svc management and my chain of command (they are frustrated too) but it still isn’t getting done.

Any suggestions? Bring back managers in-house?

Some toilets don’t flush very good and become clogged. Overflows happen when flushed to those unaware and they walk out with wet shoes and wet socks and pants legs. Some times trailing wet soiled toilet paper also. Poor maintenance because of budget constraints.

The issue here is cleaning and supplies, there are always animals we have to deal with. Clean and supply the restrooms CRE!

Cleanliness of the restroom depends on us.
Not to clean it, but to leave it clean.
Some of you out there are like six year old children
Does your spouse know what a dirt bag you are at work?
And it is not just the guys
You girls know what not to flush, yet you do

Where there is smoke there is fire. This issue keeps coming up multiple times maybe not all locations have this issue because they are staffed with janitorial personnel and are cleaned daily.

I’ve been to several Central offices and outside work locations. It’s as described in the above post but doesn’t get the attention because it’s not an issue for upper management. They aren’t having to deal with it but I guarantee you it would be correct promptly if they did. It’s inexcusable to have these deplorable conditions for restrooms.

It appears you are in an office with some of the execs if that’s your only restroom issues. Go to any Central office or any smaller office building spaces, take a look at the disgusting restrooms there, the OP is totally correct about this situation.

This has been my first experience in working in an office owned by AT&T. Not really seeing much of a downside except for the commute. This particular office is pretty nice, and the restrooms are clean in the earlier hours of the day. The afternoons are a different story. So far I've been able to locate 3 restrooms. I've seen something that both puzzles and disgusts me. The first is large countertops surrounding the hand wash basins that are completely covered in wet paper towels. Everyday. All 3 restrooms. It looks like someone took a bath. The other thing that is really even more gross is someone lines the toilet seats with toilet paper, and it has to be 1/4" deep.....then they just leave it there. WTF is wrong with people?

I keep seeing comments about OSHA. Here are some details that might be useful.

Per the OSHA website:
"Employers must maintain restrooms in a sanitary condition. Restrooms must provide hot and cold running water or lukewarm water, hand soap or similar cleansing agent and warm air blowers or individual hand towels (e.g., paper or cloth)."

Link to the page that talks about bathroom requirements (yes, really):
https://www.osha.gov/restrooms-sanitation

Ways to file a complaint with OSHA (includes multiple ways to contact them - website, email, fax, postal mail, telephone, in-person):
https://www.osha.gov/workers/file-complaint

Clean, working restrooms are a pretty basic requirement of the workplace. If your office isn't maintaining the restrooms then and isn't responsive when you report the issue (i.e., to Facilities), then please consider reporting it to OSHA.

trd bo--s left in toilets for days. brisket tacos I think? love the cost savings of no janitorial services!

To be fair, that's not janitorial service's job. Grown-a-s adults should be able to flush on their own. Or flush twice if needed. Barring the need for extensive periphery cleaning, I'd flush with my foot for previous occupants' indiscretion.

Report it to your local/state DHS, OSHA, etc. Put the company on the line for getting government visits that aren't positive

Do you work in San Francisco? that’s the norm there or a lot of other California locations. Public indecency and living in tents in downtown is encouraged.

Just sh-t in the hallway and let management worry about it.

The new, new norm, toilet paper and towels are optional and excr-ment is a bonus until you reach the exec level. Your world delivered!

As has been stated by an exec in recent townhall. Working here is voluntary so if you don’t like their filthy facilities or relocating across the country then you aren’t a good fit for this company. They like to spread the peanut bu-ter evenly, lol.
