Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Terms of surrender part 2

I’ve worked for AT&T the last 18 years as a very productive teleworker respected and requested by many to work on projects. I have 25 years with T in total. I was informed that my job was moving to Dallas and that I could opt to relocate on my own dime (of course there is the generous 20% discount on relocation services) or my last day on payroll will be the beginning of September. If I opt to relocate I will have to report to the Dallas office before the end of the year. Relocating is 2000 miles not a few hours.

If anyone has less than 15 years in this company? Get out while you can. It's not going to get better. Stock is trading in the $14 range now. There is life outside of this company.

Define successful. Successful means you accomplished what you intended to do. You got off bed and went to work. That’s successful in a nutshell . You can successfully walk down the street. You successfully completed a task . Congratulations

I’m in Dallas where it is currently 101 degrees. I’ll gladly take your job when you decide not to relocate from sunny California.

Taking any deals with AT&T is like selling your kidney at a black market.

Does the letter say that you get severance if you decide not to relocate?

Whitacre’s biggest mistake was giving Randall the keys to the car!!!

Randall got the keys to the car because he is married to Whitacre's daughter.

"Don't forget that Legg said they have armed guards in the Dallas building. Make sure you want to put your life on the line for this shthle"

They were there from before RTO. It's not because of employees but the neighborhood. The area around the Akard buildings is pretty sketchy due to lots of rather scruffy homeless who often talk to themselves.

“I’ve worked for AT&T the last 18 years as a very productive teleworker respected and requested by many to work on projects.”

Typical overinflated ego of the worth AT&T employees place on themselves. Over the years, I have seen project managers at this company continuously raise the bar on the level of orders needed to obtain a project manager. Like Service Delivery and their lack of proactive update and garbage automation, you people are honestly, pretty useless. Sales completes the pricing, sales gets the contracts, sales places the orders, sales is to blame when everyone else fails to do their job. You fill out a spreadsheet with updates to the customer once a week, most of which is parroting back what is in a log. Most of your resources have already been moved to Mexico. If you go over and above on your projects to help sales, you are a rare bird, but understand, there are few like you. PMPs are usually pretty useless.

You should have saved a bundle that allows you to leave as you did not work (on T location) commute. How nice 4U. Check the weather stats for today in Dal.

I can’t believe that anyone would seriously consider relocating for this company at this time. I mean it absolutely baffles me. Like, what are you thinking?

Get your severance. Get another job

Take the severance and find another job. You have until Sept.

“ No 6% mortgage”
Right, there isn’t a 6% mortgage. More like 7-8% right now and will be 9-10% by the end of the year with the new fed rate hike that’s coming. Ain’t no way I’d relocate. You’d lose so much money and be so much worse off. Plus the house you could afford would be 1/2 of what you live in right now with a higher monthly payment.

The executive team and the board made some really bad choices with shareholder money(DIRECTTV ETC) and now the price for that will be paid by you not them.

You are missing so many other bad decisions by "leadership".

Relo back in the day under Whitacre was a bonanza and it was grossed up to cover your taxes! Whitacre took care of us and knew what he was doing!!! Whitacre can still run rings around Stankey. Whitacre’s biggest mistake was giving Randall the keys to the car!!!

Same here, 16. Out 23 people, all 18+ years of service out the door, the rest to consider relocation. Not sure if we will be there in 365+1. If decide to rel.

You forgot to add that six months after upheaving your entire life and moving to Dallas, T will undergo yet another re-org and round of layoffs in which you'll be released.

Only to find you now live in Texas. With a new 6% mortgage payment. And with horrible support for unemployed people.

Yee haw, y'all.

So, as far as best to say you would relocate and call the bluff. What I’m hearing is they will cull the core cities after the dust settles so even relocating is not safe. I will likely run out the clock and get the severance but I’m not certain.

They want you to give up but it’s better to wait and hope they get enough quitters.

From what I’m hearing it’s best to say you’ll relocate. They don’t have room for you and it’s a bluff.
