Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T to spouse employees: Eff you!

As if we didn't already know the kind of subhuman filth that occupies the C-suite, I now know of four AT&T couples who are being told that one has to quit their AT&T job, or they have to split up.

Half work in areas where the job is local (two in regional sales, one as a specialty tech, one as public sector in DC) and their other halves' jobs are moving to Dallas.

There is no possibility for remote work for the half whose jobs are going to Dallas, of course, but also no leniency at all for them to compromise and go into a hub office. They are literally being told that splitting up is their only option to keep their jobs.

There is a special, disgusting place in h311 for the garbage subhumans making these rules.

"In your case, you could both move to Dallas without your wife losing her stay at home mom and home school job. In these couples' cases, they second one wouldn't be allowed to move to Dallas without one of them losing their job."

We could move if it was 2 years ago. Did you see today's market? We would have to trade our 2.9% mortgage for up to 7%, and pay a higher price for a smaller home. We will have to get another job just to able to afford that. And with no guarantee of any kind of job security even if you do move. It's completely unreasonable to even entertain this idea.

Not surprising. When my wife was of child bearing age, the insurance wouldn't pay for fertility treatments but would pay for abortions. Says a lot about what they think about families.

Says a lot about your thinking processes. If you gave it even a moment of thought (instead of immersing yourself in whatever grievance-fest echo-chamber you inhabit) you might come to the conclusion that the two issues are not related in any way.

"With how risky employment T has become over the last decade, why would a couple allow themselves to get into this position?"

I would sort of agree if they were in the same business group or team (of which I know some). But two completely different types of positions, in most cases highly skilled, and in many cases aligned with business units feeding at the government trough? Not terribly likely that both positions would evaporate.

With how risky employment T has become over the last decade, why would a couple allow themselves to get into this position? One of the spouses should have actively sought outside employment during the last few years.

Are they all pension eligible? The company doesn't want pension eligible people anymore, even the good ones.

"For example, we're a single income household where my wife is a stay at home mom and a home school teacher, so while these AT&T couples are forced to give up one out of two sources of income, we will be losing the only one we have, at least temporary."

Why do people talk about remote work like it’s some magic bullet? Even if you are one of the very very few that is granted the elusive occupancy indicator of TW (remote) you are still required to come into the office (your designated hub) at least 1-5 times a month.

How is this different than anyone who has a working spouse in their current city?

many married people being forced to move are faced with this same dilemma..

"Not a chance in h3ll I would allow T to dictate how we handle our marriage!"

Drama much?

They're not dictating how you handle your marriage at all.

Not a chance in h3ll I would allow T to dictate how we handle our marriage! T is going to collapse under its own weight from all the mismanagement over the last 10 years, so I’ll be happy to leave anyway! Then, my spouse will be looking for another position elsewhere! The ATT Titanic has set sail and we all know the outcome of that voyage!

"four AT&T couples who are being told that one has to quit their AT&T job, or they have to split up."

Not trying to be rude, but I don't see how both spouses working for AT&T makes their situation any worse than anyone else's. For example, we're a single income household where my wife is a stay at home mom and a home school teacher, so while these AT&T couples are forced to give up one out of two sources of income, we will be losing the only one we have, at least temporary. Now, if both spouses are losing their jobs at AT&T, that's pretty bad, for sure, but anyone else who also loses a source of income, either one out of two, or one and only, is not really in any better or worse position.

Remote work. In other words, doing personal work on company time. Yeah, not going to do that anymore.

All egs in one basket. That was a risk they were willing to take.

I remember the days when “trailing spouse” gave the spouse a guaranteed job in the new city. Apparently TS (trailing spouse) today means Tough S**t. Very sad

Both spouses working for the same company? Pretty risky there, no? Could both get laid off at the same time?

Wow. I thought that joint spouse would be one of the exceptions to get remote work!

Had to know that's always a possibility. Been the same for years with craft/management marriages.
