Welcome interns! You'll have a summer of being impressed, whisped around to different BUs, travelling to and fro constantly, meeting with important people, talking about the future constantly. . . . . then you get hired and put on your rubber boots and wade through the sh*t like the rest of us.

I started here more mid-career and am glad to have that perspective. Some of the most self-entitled people I meet here are those that don't know the rigor of working at another company who doesn't make money despite itself

The overtime dilemma is solved if you’re one of the exec’s kids. They just have their staff do the intern’s work.

The overtime issue get swept under the rug every year. The interns are legally required to be paid overtime. We have little overtime budgeted. Overtime must be approved. Interns want to make a good impression. Their days are filled with useless activities which are important to the clueless (HR). Their end of summer evaluations are dependent on many things including their projects. Completing their projects equals overtime. Don’t ask and don’t tell. Pesky labor laws.

boo-hoo. . . . . these interns are getting paid VERY WELL. I made $10/hr in my college job in construction. These interns sit in cold AC, get lots of free meals, go on field trips, and get paid $7k in a summer for only 10 weeks of work, cry me a river.

There’s an intern review on Glassdoor stating that interns in engineering are working 40+ hour weeks but are only allowed to charge 40 hours or else….

And don’t forget, your project is the basis for your mentor’s and probably several other peoples’ entire yearly accomplishments. They’ll get plenty of credit even though you’re doing the work. Make ‘em look good! They’re counting on that good rating and big bonus!

Most all of new hire Petro- tech staff is selected from the intern pool and enhanced by executive referrals . Advice to interns is enjoy your summer, take advantage of what there is to learn and contacts to make. If COP offers a full-time position, use your school’s acceptance policy to delay your acceptance as long as possible. Continue to interview and use your past internship experience to your advantage. Take the best offer you receive and never look back. Look out for yourself.

You’ll be wined and dined and showed a good time. Field trips and ball games and all the fun stuff that is used to lure you in. Then if you’re hired, the fun dies and the politics begin. You’re being judged from minute one. Nobody is your friend. Nobody has your back. Don’t be fooled. If you’re not working your tail off to appear like a perfect yes-man or company darling, you’re going nowhere. At least not at the home of SPIRIT values.

Of course. I couldn't believe that for Bring the Future to Work day, company isn't even providing a meal for the kids. That would cost the company nearly nothing relatively and would please many people with families.

But hey, as long as the interns are happy. We'd love to bring them in, get something decent looking on their resume, then let them fly the coupe for tech indusrty
