Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Bonus to be paused?

Just a rumor I heard from a few people, but I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be true. What do you think?

Happier to correct you. Look at your check stub. Bonus in NOT part of your salary. It is optional and not part of your salary. When paid, it becomes part of your earnings but it is not part of your base salary. What you don’t know is a lot.

Lol, look at you total compensation package. Compensation = Pay. I just checked my march 6th stub for the last 22 years. Yes, it is one time a year but it IS part of your compensation package. Happiest to correct you. There are reading centers in most major cities if you need help 😀

“ Old timers please correct me if im wrong but in the 2009ish timeframe L2 mgrs (maybe more i was new back then) were told they were delaying or only doing half when expected. Whatever the wording was i got 2 bonuses over 3 years. ”

This was actually my first year that I qualified for a bonus (had been contractor prior) and it was also the first time wireline and wireless results were combined. The wireline results were so bad it completely ki-led the bonus. BoD voted to grant 50% bonus anyway. But they never skipped a bonus.

Old timers please correct me if im wrong but in the 2009ish timeframe L2 mgrs (maybe more i was new back then) were told they were delaying or only doing half when expected. Whatever the wording was i got 2 bonuses over 3 years. They found a way to skip a bonus over a 3 year period. And back then we were in the 80% range anyway

So no news but if they skip a bonus it will be the 2nd time in my tenure so no suprise.

"Happy to correct you. Bonus is part of your pay."

Well, sure, and if you know you're not getting it, I'd say feel free to do an absolute minimum, but we don't work just for the bonus, is all I'm saying.

You guys should all band together and form a union.

Can they do that?

It is definitely a component of total compensation. They often use it as an excuse to give sub-par raises when they can get away with it.

Ok, I know this will be downvoted, but you do work for your pay check. Bonus is just that... a bonus

Happy to correct you. Bonus is part of your pay.

“ I doubt that they just spring "no bonus" on everyone next year. ”

Not only will they do it, it will be spun as being your fault.

You know, not living up to your "purpose" and all.

“ I doubt that they just spring "no bonus" on everyone next year. ”

You mean the same way they did the RTO/HUB policy? You think it’s a different company or leadership in charge of bonuses?

"in pervious years we could log into amplify and find a "at&t success bonus" section. I no longer can find that."

For the last few years that has only appeared for a short time when they have made an announcement about funding level. And then it disappeared again.

I doubt that they just spring "no bonus" on everyone next year. More likely they telegraph that with interval results - amount below the threshold level is how they would do it.

sorry, but no. a bonus is part of an overall compensation package.
if you lost healthcare or pension would say you claim it doesn't change anything?
if so you'd be a rare one. Many people retired when the deal was changed for them.

When hired we discussed typical bonus amounts. What a lean year was. What a max year was. and likelyhood of it being paid out.
You'd be correct if it was some pie in the sky goal we reached for doing extra well.
But its not. 80 to 110% of the targeted amount is normal and expected. 80% is a pretty bad amount.
this talk of zero is just doomerism and not likely at all.

They seemed to blame the bonus for the free cashflow situation. As if bonuses hitting in Q1 is a suprise to them.

in pervious years we could log into amplify and find a "at&t success bonus" section. I no longer can find that.

that said. Last year, not sure we heard anything in Q1. And the Q2 bonus update email came out in late August.

Not even Stankey?

L2 manager here. Given that we are mid June and have heard nothing re: our progress toward whatever metrics< I think it's a safe bet they aren't planning on bonus payouts for 2023. Plan accordingly.

I just assumed that if you weren't on payroll when bonuses are paid out in March that you didn't get it at all prorated or not. Weird to be thinking about a bonus that far ahead if the actual jobs are at stake.

In case you didn’t notice already, Stanley recently granted himself (with board approval) an 18% raise. I’m sure this was so can gain our sympathy when he tells everyone no bonus this year, including himself.

Management will want their bonuses. They can’t stop it for for some and keep theirs. Since we know upper management only cares about themselves, this means the prorated bonuses for those laid off will be paid.

"However, I wonder if anyone who actually gets surplussed ever actually receives their bonus ???"

They do. Prorated. I know many that either retired or were surplussed that received their bonus payouts.

"Couldn't they make sure everyone is off payroll before the end of year to ensure they do not get a bonus?"

Alright, forgive me for a d-mb question, but don't people get a prorated bonus for the months they worked in a year regardless of when they leave? That's how I always thought it worked, and if there is a bonus, of course.

If the company is truly looking to have 15000 less people and are trying to reach 16bn FCF we can all assume the company will NOT want to bonus out the 15000 employees.

The only way they can pull that off is by NOT providing a bonus at all to any employees.
