Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Stankey and Legg Should Be Ashamed

I am a seasoned, highly skilled professional and have worked for three large companies (including AT&T) during my tenure in the corporate world. This AT&T debacle is the worse thing I've ever experienced.

The stress that people are enduring is palpable. Legg has this "Wave" concept. People in Wave 1 are people who are not currently in a Hub. What that means has never been defined... does it mean that they are currently associated with a Hub even if they don't live in commuting distance, or actually working at a Hub now... who knows. Questions asked, never answered. However, these people will have until Dec. 31 to report to their new destinations. Where those destinations are have not been definitively communicated, except that it will be among the 9 or so Hubs or COEs. But that may or may not be their "long term" destination. With the current housing market, the possibility of selling a home and buying a new one in a new, mostly likely unfamiliar area in that short of a time frame has long odds for success. The other "waves" are even less certain, if that is possible. But with AT&T's record for execution, who knows if they will even happen.

Even if this ridiculous plan changes, and I suspect it will, the damage has already been done to human beings who have worked hard for this heartless company. The weeks of stress cannot be undone. Many of us will be forever changed in how we look at this company, and the effort that we will continue to put forth.

I personally will be okay, and have made my decisions about how to respond to whatever "offers" may be forth coming. My situation is easier than it is for many people, who have special needs children or other family members who would be at risk if uprooted. Or perhaps these employees have their own health or other issues which makes relocation (to God knows where...) unacceptable. I will be fine. But even with my uncomplicated situation, I am feeling the stress and working hard to keep it at bay. Weeks of uncertainty ; time we will never get back.

I wonder if Stankey and Legg will ever be able to scrub the dark spots from their souls that their actions have caused? Doubtful, because they probably don't even care what they are doing to people.

That's my rant. I am done ranting and now will just try to get on with life and not think about this mess. But it is always there, in the background. Shame on Stankey and Legg, and other executive leaders who are involved. (I am in ATS, so I mostly focused on Legg).

T has been in layoff mode since 1985 and it hasn't stopped since. It happens annually and there was never anything the employees could do about it except just not apply here or if you do work here and feel pressured, then look elsewhere to get out on your own! It's an easy fix, people!

At least the ENPS gives employees an opportunity to VOICE their concerns to leadership. VP’s and SVP’s definitely review the feedback/comments.

It’s better than saying nothing and giving the appearance that we are working in a utopian situation.

the eNP survey is setup to rank those who work around you but not those in the CEO level

You have two choices - stay or leave. Corp level management is not going to change and employees will not be able to change it (management strike etc). ATT board is not going to change.

ATT has been doing layoffs so long that if you worked here for 5-10y, you know this is normal.

good luck

If JS and most of this board was fired and a new CEO came in and did the exact same thing with RTO, I think it still would be viewed negatively but because it came from someone who wasn’t part of screwing this place up over the last 15 years (or at least riding shotg-n with RS), people may understand and see that there is some change coming. It’s hard to trust anything this senior leadership says or does. We need new leadership yesterday. How can JS keep showing up to this office and cafeteria knowing everyone can’t stand him?

He may want to reclassify himself as Virtual and just never come around again.

Does anyone knows that you are highly skilled? Do you running around and tell everyone that you are highly skill so they know?

Everything going on today at AT&T are most assuredly acts of desperation. That is why we are in total chaos and nothing productive is getting accomplished. The level of incompetence would be laughable if it wasn’t destroying the lives of the ones of us who have given our all to this company. Until the BOD is totally removed, there is no hope left. They have demonstrated their incompetence in spades. They owe the word disgrace an apology. They are only out for themselves. Only an id--t would follow their direction. They have forfeited the ability to lead.

Been here going on 25 years. I would NEVER recommend ANYONE apply to work here, but I would have 2 months ago. They have completely destroyed any dedication employees had to the company

OP- Great Post! Your feelings expressed are felt by SO many of us!

The company leaders- C-Suite—talk about “transparency”. Where is the “transparency” in ALL of this?

Additionally, if there was ACTUAL “transparency” they would have rolled this out LAST YEAR, BEFORE management employees that have 20+ years of service completely LOST $200k-$300k+ off our lump sum!
They don’t care!

ENPS- For those of us still around next year..There will be a ENPS next year, be sure to remember THIS for next years survey!

Transparency—- What a joke!
Where are the fearless C-Suite leaders right now? Hiding!

Would any of you recommend to friends, family or new graduates to work for this company? Sadly the answer is He-l No.”

The latest employee survey results showed a different result.

OP: your post was good. Not a rant. Made sense …just one thing to add to make things even worse… for the people outside the orgs you mention, what’s being done in other areas is “special” people get a virtual assignment approved. Their skills are no different than others and can be done by someone else, but to accommodate favorites each VP gets to select a special 10%. This is bound to cause the company a lawsuit.

First of all I agree with the author of this below and the original Author of this string ( VERY WELL STATED!)
My 2 cents- Employees MUST Revolt against these waste of human beings- they are not leaders of my company.. they are destroying everything any dedicated employee has ever worked for here... as far as the eNP - Employees should create our own... send it directly to the Board of Directors of this company and state and show the dissatisfaction and zero confidence in these leaders and fully state If these leaders are allowed to stay, there will be he-l to pay for this treatment, We are the people that get the work done... very easy for every one of us to tank this effort with non compliance, "Peaceful protests" and document EVERY issue we are seeing with whatever issue is encountered, whether it be overcrowding at these Hubs, lack of connectivity, Document, document, document, send reports directly to the B of Ds and she lack of leadership, lack of confidence, and how negatively these so called leaders are ruining a once great company.... I can say, Middle to upper MGMT does not agree with many of these edicts, and it is this very few top level suite of leaders ( some have brought in other friends to make this happen) - ALL need to be canned! We as the Employees can make this happen if we all stick together and drive this effort into the ground where it belongs, publicize it... what are they going to do fire ALL of us? wake up and stop being afraid of these id--ts that have put us in this position by way of a series and long history of bad decision making, and we can now begin now to end this once and for all, take over.. voice our opposition to the Board of Ds, the media.. and publicly state how these particular "Named" id--ts are ruining this company!!
Very well said , Sir, the OP.
Not only Stankey, Legg, McFresh should be ashamed of themselves but they are cowards too. They don't have the gut to send out those hub relocation messages before the eNP survey started but rather wait until after the eNP was set and done. Imagine how the eNP result would look like if hub relocation was announced before the eNP started.

I say Fire away and let the chips fall where they may! better than living under this current state of affairs.. and if we go out, we go out fighting for whats right and you can all look yourselves in the mirror

If the T-mobile, DTV, and TW are representative of major initiatives the Hub concept will be a disaster.

Well said. Management thoughts are, I dont care as I am not measured on that, This wount effect my bonus so lets deflect and distract from the subject, It is sad AT&T made those decisions that effected you, But I will be fine. This is the culture of AT&T management and the cause for the companys decline. The fact is that if the head is bad the whole body suffers. FYI, AT&T also is shipping ATS jobs overseas as fast as possible while they can attract talent(good luck with that). Fact, anyone that does not move(on there own dime) will be replaced with Jobs first listed overseas. Only if they cant be filled overseas then recs will only be opened in Dallas and Atlanta. So if you feel safe because you are not in wave 1 or think AT&T will not execute on this plan then you are a fool. AT&T management needs to get the workers back to work and they will tell them any bedtime story as the execute this plan. We are all Turkeys here and thanksgiving comes many times a year at AT&T. I recommend to all to get out, get away and stay away from these crooks at any cost before the can your bu-t. Boycot working for them, dont start working for them, stop using there services or owning the stock. This is the only way to force change. May God Bless the hard working employees of AT&T and there families during these troubling times.

Very thoughtful post. The facts that Stanley, Legg, Mcelfresh and others are in their jobs is a travesty. By all objective measures they have failed miserably…Leadership should deliver for Customers, shareholders and employees… How have they done collectively?

Customers - D
shareholders - F
employees - F

How would you grade them? Their performance has been miserable. We don’t need cute haircuts, eating hot wings, etc… we need new leadership that can grow revenues and profits, inspire employees and deliver for customers..
