Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

There is a lot of tribal knowledge that keeps AT&T afloat.

Forcing relocation to Dallas = playing with fire. Those who play with fire perish by it.

@bxv+1n2lbzAz now that's a system I haven't heard mentioned in almost 40 years!

I use to think this also - but when the smartest person on the team leaves - the world does not end. Projects might slip or be wrong but the giant stone know as ATT keeps rolling.

The people who really knew TIRKS left/retired 15-20 years ago.

Soon, this won’t be a concern for many as it clearly isn’t reading many of these responses.

If I have to train my replacement, I will do it incorrectly and incompletely.

What fire?? In 2023 people still naive. The dark side will always win, always been this way. Bad companies have your tax money to bail them out. They aren’t going anywhere. And the heads of the companies who make bad decisions guess what? They take a big retirement bonus in millions and the Club that we don’t belong to reassign them to a different business or company. how do you explain a guy who ran T to the wall came back as advisor getting paid good money with no string attached or accountability.
We just come here to vent, nothing will change except maybe our stupidity to believe and give 110%.

AT&T has enjoyed for far too long peer to peer training that has costs the company Zero. Someone new on your team? Get them up to speed anytime they ask a question, and are willing to learn.
Someone new on our "Union Dreg" crew? Get them up to speed, anytime they ask a question and are willing to learn,
The Company has sat on it's a-s for decades . There is no training, and we have kept the company running despite Randy and John's best effort
That is about to come to a stop. People retire, and people die with this knowledge that can't be sent to India.

Slam TIRKS all you want to but it works. This company was built on the back of TIRKS and CABS and CRIS….I could go on. Thanks to those of us who know how to innovate and build a product from scratch and get it out the door generating revenue. You know nothing compared to the ones of us who were the real trailblazers. If they would have capitalized on what we do best instead of pursuing the cr-p they did we wouldn’t be in this sh-t hole. So you don’t know Jack sh-t when you talk about TIRKS. You’re too d-mb to have ever been part of our team.

I think their grand idea is to ramp up tech jobs in india. They wouldn't know what hit them when they will have coders with zero business knowledge trying to keep the systems afloat. Given the churn ratio in India and most being mediocre the real fun will start..

“ Good luck training a new hire on TIRKS.”

What L2-L4 would be using TIRKS?

Great news!! If you are as great as you think, you will be an OUTSTANDING employee at McDonald’s. (Still no WFH)

I’ve given up on training my eventual replacement. The last one was laid off and got picked up by the competition.

Nobody will remember us 10 years from now. 100 years from now everyone will remember Stankey as a loser.

Tribal knowledge has sort of become a necessity around here. As more and more heads get cut, and no backfills come in, many groups don't have enough resources to cross train over even handle the work left when someone goes on vacation. That is failure at the top. Folks at the bottom have been voicing that their workgroups have been starved for resources for years.

I can’t transfer decades of knowledge in 6 months let alone 2 weeks. Not my problem somebody didn’t think that through.

“ If you don’t already have strong documentation in place with a backup plan for continuity, you are a poor performer. You should have been sent packing long ago.”

Spoken like a clueless L6. An AT&T job aid isn’t going to be of much use when the sh*t hits the fan.

I'm not documenting sh-t. All my knowledge and skills are going with me where ever I go. This is part of my value, I'm not here just for busy work. If they don't want me, they don't get to keep what I have built over the years.

“ Waaa...this company will fail without me”

No John, the company will survive just fine without you. Pretty hard to score plays after getting rid of all the QBs. Not going to get the FCF fumbles fixed with field goals.
