Anyone know how to get a waiver for tkt2? Is there a course or certification I could take to get it waived? If I get an associates degree will it work?

Union should have a study guide on their website. There’s a big difference between techs that passed the tkt and those that received a waiver.
tkt2 is required if you want to be a CO tech or a Specials tech and also a Systems tech and last a Deg tech.
Co techs is best bet if your in district 6
Specials have become high paid premise techs running tons of fiber drops and IW inside and outside.
Systems techs used to do a lot of the phone systems in big business and would program them but that department is all gone now.
Deg here is down from about 12 guys to 3 now so they will be absorbed by CO end of July
Splicing and I and R do not require it but there is always tons of prem techs in line for those jobs.
TKT1 has lots of math and electronics questions which is when we used to fix the system cards in the CO and out in the field! We no longer do that we just send them back now so that was kind of outdated!
Hence the TKT2 which has lots of basic questions on math and windows based systems so its broader in knowledge just not as technical.
don't know if it has changed I did it 3 years ago wasn't too bad and like other poster said it is given by a third party and they tell you right away!
I was told you need at least 5 college courses (15 hours) in electronics and they all have to be from the same college. I was trying to get a waiver at the time but only had one electronics course. I ended up getting to take the TKT applying to a job and passed but didnt get it due to seniority. I would not have passed had I not taken that electronics course. You need to get prepared in advance because when you call you up you only get 2-3 days to prepare and the topics they give you to study are so broad it wont help if you arent familiar with any of it.

If you're trying this hard to skate around the TKT2 (which is a mandatory exam for various union titles), then you shouldn't even be applying for a job that requires it anyway. It doesn't apply to all craft technician titles, just those that require more brains then swinging a hammer or climbing wooden poles all day. It's there to keep total id--to's from moving into the highest level group 1 craft jobs solely based on seniority. It doesn't keep them all out though. I can name a half dozen "Electronic" and "Systems" technicians, without a second thought, who can barely spell either word, much less have any meaningful interaction with electronics or systems.
The union is a joke. Always has been and always will be. They usually pass the red face test, but the second you start digging under the surface, you realize just how unqualified many of them are for the jobs they occupy. Many = Many, not most, all or some.
" They just say you passed or failed based on if they want you to transfer to the job opening." Definitly not true, you take the test at a 3ed party location and they print out your pass/fail on the spot. I know somone who failed once, knew basicaly what was on the test to study, took it again a year latter and passed.
The test doesn’t matter. You don’t get to see the actual test results. They just say you passed or failed based on if they want you to transfer to the job opening. I believe a BS degree in any form of electrical, digital type technology will get you a waiver, but that still doesn’t give you a qualification for the job opening. They can always claim higher seniority, more years in the actual job requirements than you. Changing jobs is an a-s kissing contest, not a skills contest.
You don't have to pass tkt2 for most tech jobs, it is for the high end tech jobs. I understand it's a very low pass rate. Thought the company is getting rid of staff. What title tech jobs will be open requiring tkt2?
No. You have to be smart. Sorry
Ok what steps can someone take to get it waived. Since it can only be taken once every 6 months?
Technical Knowledge Test to become a technician. Yes, there will be openings for technicians in out of region areas of the country.
What the heck is tkt2?
What open jobs are there requiring the tkt2?
Nope
