Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

It hurts and I’m sad 😞

How do I deal with the anxiety and the pain of what feels like a deep betrayal? I gave everything to this place and now it’s coming to an end. I’m not ready to go. How can they reward my loyalty like this?

I don’t have a future, my skills are only relevant for AT&T.

Anyone have tips for coping?

Poor a big glass of wine, relax and get up tomorrow and start sending out your resume and pounding the pavement. Good luck to all.

POOR vs. POUR...try learning your homonyms! This is an example of why T is getting rid of managers! Good grief!

Top performer generally means your higher in the pay band. They love to get rid of top performers as it saves them even more money.

Look around…if you have spent any significant time here you have seen this happen over and over to your colleagues. What makes you think you’re special? Everyone should expect that they are next and prep for it. Manage your work day finding a replacement job. That’s what thousands that came before you have done. Assume you’re not getting the 5/5/5 that everyone is holding out hope for bc it’s not happening and make your own severance package. Use your time to find your next job.

I just travel to Nevada and spend some time in their brothels.

Grow up. How about that. If you have two arms and two legs, you can work a job. I’m beginning to believe T is full of entitled crybabies who need safe spaces and a blankie.

top performer means you have the skills for survival in the corporate world, I would be more worried if I were at the bottom of the list

You didn't think the company would do this to a "top performer"? The other guy was right ... are you naive, stupid, or just new to T?

Top performers have been axed going back decades. Nobody is safe, and if you're one of those people, like the Stink apologists that post here, who honestly believed that everyone let go up til now deserved it, well then you deserve the humiliation, anxiety, and fear.

Hopefully you'll open your eyes, but you seem way too full of yourself.

There's a word for what's happening to you: Karma. Enjoy it

Just pull yourself up by your bootstraps and pound the pavement. Go in and ask to speak to the manager with your resume in hand. That's how you got your first job at AT&T right?

I’m not naive, I just thought my performance would always save me. I didn’t dream that the company would do this to a top performer.

Um ... was the OP hired three weeks ago? How can anyone with more than a month at T be surprised, saddened, or shocked by their attitude towards employees?

Beyond that, you need to lighten up, Francis. Your skills will transfer to other companies and even to other industries that are completely unrelated to telecom. Just expand your horizons to include a wider range of employers (healthcare, education, non-profits, etc) and remember that skill is not the same as function.

But seriously, you must be naive to think that T would feel any amount of loyalty to their employees. For T, employees are like toilet paper: they have a function and after Stink uses you to clean up his sheet, you're flushed away.

your honey moon with T should have ended back when they started laying off all your peers in the office. cut all emotional ties and get mentally ready for your next job unless you decide to move

You'll all be better off leaving this company! It's like being offered a spot on one of the life boats on the Titanic! Sure, it's going to be a challenge at first, but you'll look back and thank your lucky stars every day! Leave with your dignity still intact and your head up high, you'll be alright!

You probably have more job skills and experience than you realize or give yourself credit for. Have more confidence in yourself. As for feeling betrayed, I agree and hope you can come to ‘acceptance’ stage without too much pain. Don’t forget, you can use EAP - Employee Assistance Program resources to talk with professionals if needed. Take Care.

There's your mistake. No matter how much you give, how hard you work, extra free overtime, work at home nights and weekends, innovate something to save millions, etc etc, they just don't care about you. Never get fooled into believing that they do.

I work in a different sector for a different employer, but first time I was laid off I felt the same. Just have to move on and realize you’re just a number to corporate America. I work for the people around me…. If they’re cool with me, that’s all that matters in the end.

I’m sorry you are so sad. Losing a job can be at the top of life stressors for some. Up there with divorce and losing a loved one. Please see a therapist asap. If you don’t connect with the first one find a different one you vibe with better. This feeling is only temporary, you’ll get thru. Best wishes.

It is a cr-ppy feeling, and this company never has and never will care about your loyalty. Turn these feelings into motivation to update your resume and really search to see what’s out there. It’s hard to imagine sometimes, but there are better things out there besides working for this horrible company.

You are not alone; I'm sure many others feel similarly. I would suggest talking with someone you trust: a spouse, parent, friend, counselor, or religious advisor. Unfortunately, none of us here are going to be able to provide adequate solace. And this may seem trite, but here are a couple short articles that can at least help you understand your feelings and give you some direction.
