Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

People trying to look busy

Of course, I'm not happy that some people will lose their jobs in this economy, however, realistically, many people here are having to pretend to be doing something because they have almost nothing to do. For me, not having enough work has long been a sign that I should look for something new.

To all the folks saying that you have plenty of work, you realize that someone with ADHD only gets about 20% of a normal person’s work done. They have pills for it too.

Don't bother these guys. They are wallowing in sorrow and anger at Intel. Not doing anything to help themselves either so theres that.

I would like to know where all of these "sit on your a-s" gigs are. I'm in TD on the system side and have solid work for the next 18 months planned out. Even had to turn down some work.

People are smart and can easily recognize when they or others are working on useless tasks. Inside Intel you call these 'make work' projects. Everybody knows they won't lead anywhere, but you can create an MBO out if it, look busy and try and convince yourself it will help the company. Soon, intuition takes over in your gut, rises up to tell you that is all pure fiction. Intel culture has been distorted.

There are plenty of good things to keep busy with at home: lunch, books, chatting with wife (WFH too). Things are way worse at the office which is where YouTube comes from. There is barely time for it at home.

@nja, true story. I recently returned to college and one of my professors owns a restaurant. She was telling us that she's been understaffed for quite awhile and finding decent help is a nightmare these days. Add to that the constant vandalism and theft that seems to be the new career choice for many, and it's like why bother?

Most managers have no idea what's going on.

Lots of job openings around. I went to a restaurant over the weekend, half of the tables are empty yet we had to wait for more than 30 min because the management can't find anyone to work them.

I suppose that is the booming economy right now.
