Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

RTO - Every major tech company is doing it. (Michael) Dell was just the holdout.

WFH was clearly Michael Dell's core belief. Seems like some internal politics and a boss move by Jeff Clarke happened. Michael will leave the company he founded sometime over the quiet summer.

There may be a major merger/acquisition coming up. But inflation concerns may put it on hold. This is a new day for and a new direction for the company. Fasten your seatbelts. It's gonna be a bumpy ride.

I believe this is all related to tax break deals originally made with states/countries/cities long before Covid. I think those government entities are now coming back to the companies and enforcing those agreements now that the pandemic is over.

Why is there always a comment on the Dell and EMC acquisition and one being better than the other? Each company has its shortcomings and there always is opportunity to learn positive things. In this dynamic world, every company needs to think ahead of the future. We can take Taxi and Hotel as an example. People who decided on these merger already were innovators with thousands of people reporting under them. I hear this statement regularly “EMC or Dell is better than other” and often times it comes from people who we expect should not have that feeling. Sometimes it is just sad that people are so biased that they are not open to what the other company has to offer.

/thatreallyhappened lol

During integration every EMCr counterpart in my area was about 2 levels higher than they should be. Lots of inflated titles and egos for certain. Not all of course, but most. It was backwards and outmoded in so many ways, lots of blatant nepotism, cronyism, s-xism, and racism. Dell is by no means perfect… but the duct tape and chicken wire holding the EMC ship together was certainly a sight to behold.

@bke+1my2LI0V - when I went through the AWS loop, 3 of the 5 people said they liked that I worked for EMC as people they interviewed from Dell were not of the same calibre. This is in the UK as an FYI.

EMC people more educated? That them/us mentality since it’s been 7 years since the acquisition (yes, acquisition, not merger) is what they’re trying to weed out.

So, requiring 12 hrs (on average) of commuting, plus another 6-12 hours of teardown/packing/unpacking/setup/teardown/repacking per month per person plus 120$-250$ in gas is going to get the companies culture back on track. Plus the hours of productivity lost dealing with sh---y sub-optimal shared/leftover equipment.

Come in to the office and work on the culture.... Sure, build a culture of people that are mad they were forced to return to the office for nothing more than working on the culture. Because it is 100% guaranteed it is not more productive for an engineer/developer or most people.

Yes. People have these theories. This is not any vision by the management. it is just monkey see monkey do with current trends.
EMC people generally are more educated and sophisticated.

Referring to him as Michael. Such bullsh#t and don't be an a-s kisser... Michael. Nobody would want to buy such a dump. Best sell-off EMC and leave it get out from under the rubbish management of Dell. EmC'ers hate Dell , don't forget that
