I am 61 and want to stop working voluntarily...in other words, I want to get laid off. I have enough to live comfortably and longevity does not run in my family. In NYS, is your unemployment reduced by severance? I will only get 8 weeks severance but that's better than nothing. If I leave on my own I get nothing. If unemployment is denied while on severance, can I claim unemployment 8 weeks after being laid off?

Depending on your relationship with your HR rep, just have the conversation. Most of the people I have dealt with at Corning are decent and would understand the concerns and discussion - trying to understand what the different scenarios look like in case you're impacted.
