Microsoft and AMD collaborating on AI chips, this could be a huge loss for Intel

Intel better get its sh!t together fast. This actually isn't the first AMD win over Intel at Microsoft. It started a long time ago when MSFT released 64 bit Windows and the binaries were in the AMD64 sub-directory because AMD won the race to get 64 bit hardware to market first. Sad development.

Microsoft denied fronting any money to AMD for AI chip.

Collaboration is not exactly what I would call it. Nor does Microsoft. I think this is a case where Microsoft is fronting the cost for AMD to make the chips. When they sell those chips, Microsoft will get their money back. Intel lost with Athena in 2019, and it was a well-deserved loss.

Looks like Microsoft announced that AMD collaboration on AI is false. PE for AMD is 400 so too expensive.

Smart move by MSFT, as there's no way for Intel to deliver a working product on schedule. Whereas AMD has a lot of success with custom designs (Playstation, XBOX, and Steam Deck,) Intel has zero experience, unless you count the original Xbox from 2001 that had a P3 Coppermine based CPU.

AMD has better CPU design.
AMD has better GPU design.
AMD has better FPGA.
AMD has better fab process (via TSMC and Samsung).
AMD has better software stack (ROCm > OneAPI).

Intel has no ability to deliver on time, Aurora was supposed to be finished in 2018, and we're still waiting...

It'll go through and be a great success
Intel will be blindsided just like they were with apple.

Intel will continue it's descent into ruin

The idea is to sell chips. Microsoft sells search ads.

@sui - Which is the stupidest approach possible if you want to make a profit from it.

Intel has a different approach. AI for everyone. No proprietary tech like Nvidia and Microsoft.
