Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

WFH change first bad decision from Pat

I am that normal, positive person that everyone from thelayoff hates and accuses of being HR. You have a company hitting on all cylinders and you decide to destroy that by bringing back people to the office for hugs. This is follower management. It's bad for the environment. It will result in amazing people leaving. Lets be serious for a moment, after years of "being in the office" and failing on our process nodes, Covid happens, WFH happens, and now every node is on track or being pulled in. Messing with a successful mix just to get people to quit is madness. If you are a thelayoff hater, this is your chance to stop trolling and being contrary.

So go ahead thelayoff bitters, say waahhh. Get back at me. When I no longer work at Intel, I won't be back here stalking those people.

LOLOLOL!!! Sure, every CEO says, "We have an AI model that's faster than an engineer, accuracy at least as good (they can pass a med board cert exam) and much lower costs, but since this schm*ck is driving into work, we'll pay them instead." Said no CEO ever...

For those of you who are asking for 'WFH', I would just say be careful what you ask for. Why? I am data science / AI fellow.

What separates us humans from the AI is the spontaneous innovation and problem solving that comes about by live, in-person interaction.

If you want WFH you will get it. You will be replaced by AI because it will do everything you do and more when you sit at home in work in a vacuum.

The losers who have no life outside of work will be thrilled. Same with management, they're not useful or important unless they make other people follow orders. Get ready for the smart creative people to head for the exits.

We have already had one major resignation of a top talent in our organization, and hope this doesn't domino into many more. We could easily be left with only those who cannot land any other job.

Have to agree, I haven't liked taking a paycut or having no rewards, the threat of layoffs

But they at least seemed sensible reactions to the financial losses.

Our team is so much more productive WFH than in office, and while I'm sure there's some teams that aren't , having a blanket policy that doesn't seem to have any evidence behind it seems like a huge misstep

Not much sympathy... worked in mfg for 20 years supporting a fab. Things did not get done if people were not there including engineers, data scientists, programmers, etc... Try a different industry for wfh. Manufacturing is not the one.
