When I saw which people were cut I was really disappointed.
A colleague who was a role model employee lost his job……What kind of message does that send to us who are still here?
Obviously, hard work isn't the key to success here.

You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.
The individual that wrote hard work is not something folks at The Gap Inc are known for. First you ended you sentence in a preposition so perhaps grammar or a lesson in English might help you write. But if you're responsible for print and color then perhaps that would make sense. I have many friends and my partner worked (themselves) 18 hours a day at times "sans" the commute even when it was lets work from home b/c COVID. The Commercial Real Estate that the Fisher's Own. One side built all the lovely buildings that they owned and then they shed so many of the building in sales via poor transactions. I don't know if YouTube or Walmart still rent or purchased the San Bruno office. But your comment is truly insulting and off base and perhaps an experience in your silo but each of the The Gap Inc positions required different skills and assets. So let's layoff some people in Congress. IDK but they were a wonderful company at times but the "gestalt" of any company changes over time and certainly a company only consists of the people making the decisions and share holders. At the time of the layoff they lost stunningly talented people. Too bad...generous too many who worked there for years.
Most of the people I know have worked there tale off there. I knew people in merchandising and then in IT and the pressure was high. The odd thing is that the longer that that allowed sourcing from vendors to produce cheap produce for a lot of the clothes (except Baby Gap and the Kids). I recall never finding anything at Banana, The Gap aka sorry my friend a graphic designer jokingly called them The Cr-p at their height (just a joke) and then Old Navy (never found anything there) and the Athleta was fine but quite overpriced IMO. However, I think that for such a long time they did a great job merchandizing. Ask any engineer and he/she will tell you that AGILE IT and the SCRUM MASTER is counterintuitive in some facets of IT. That would be my thought for facets regarding sourcing. Anyhow, it's a purely sad event that so many that ran projects into the ground remained while those who did well remained. Those same "woke: people offended others and talked about everything that you really should not discuss at work due to EEOC rules. But that's true everywhere. In many ways. they were a good company but I think like others are headed towards Mitt Romney buying them out through a Private Equity Firm. Retail is tough and I would not want to work in it for all the tea in China again at a corporation. But they lost some loyal employees. Sad.
I complete agree. My dp worked (their) as off and truly was committed to the company. Multiple promotions but I truly think that most companies abide by the adage that is true - they look at the highest paid employees; and specifically I think look at other factors including age; and other factors also play into it. Politically not each person plays the game and most of the companies where I worked we had a CEO that would be hired and then drive profits into the ground. It's purely not personal b/c the people that do the firing are the bean counters with NO personal investment in the employee. Your wife has a critical illness? Doesn't matter? The whole thing is just bottom line and again having people come into work for cheaper. But you get what you pay for in the world and funny how all or most of the Fisher kids moved to Texas to avoid paying taxes on their own companies. So start your own company and build a better mousetrap...as Sam Walton said, "I did it and and I am not that smart." The day they fire Art the designs took a toll and he went to J Crew. And the other piece is our economy. IT is sla-ghtered right now despite working from home the Fishers have one building left with low overhead there. You just report to the board. I suggest work for a recruiting company or start you own. MY brother in law worked for so many companies and as soon as he was closing a long haul multi million dollar deal worth 100's of thousands of dollars then they would cut him. And who replaced him, a guy from India who had a H1bvisa. Thank you Biden. And Congress.....long story and history there.
They laidoff entire our team we did lot hardwork built the team and tools now all of sudden they replaced with Accenture contractors for cheap in india. So we became scapegoats for someone’s mistake in leadership. What messsge they sending ? Hardwork doesn’t matter? How can you replace entire team overnight so no job security for anyone working for gap
A woke company is defined as a business organization that has embraced progressive causes and often implements them in terms of company policies.
GAP cares more about pandering to the public for profit than taking care of the welfare of their employees
Gap is sinking they laidoff entire our team in IT we did lot hardwork now we been replaced by 3rd party company workers in india for cheap. Who knows they might soon bankrupt
They said the lay offs where the thin management layers but I only hear of lower levels being let go.
What’s a woke company?
The guy is acting like he has reinvented the wheel. Come on. He’s been involving in picking the CEOs since early 2000s. When did he become a business savant all of a sudden?
Gap has always been a left leaning, "woke" company who has alienated a lot of their customers because of their virtue signaling. I used to work there up until a couple of years ago. They are out of touch with the customer base and have horrible customer service right now. They need a CEO to take them in a completely different direction if they want to survive. Gap and BR are the divisions that are most threatened.
“The MAGA Temp CEO” lol. Gap Inc was run off a cliff trying to appease one side versus another and now they are in the mess because of it. How is the Temp CEO MAGA? What proof do you have? It seems he is trying to correct the course after many disastrous decisions by leaders who are no longer there. They were either kicked out or fled after their decision making leaving the people employed holding the bag. The cuts made for mist companies are a result of id--tic decisions made by people very high up who worked off emotion and not sound business decisions. IMO Gap Inc needs to remain neutral. Either way they are alienating half of the public if not. In these times, they are fighting with every retailer on new or even returning customers. People employed need to keep customer at the top and not petty preferences.
The whole situation is tragic. People who were responsible for bad products are allowed to carry on while great teammates are cut.
Also the MAGA temp CEO is making unsound business and people decision. He is also the chairman of the board. Do we think that whoever he picks will be decent? It’s going to be an all boys club.
“Hard work” is not something Gap Inc employees are known for. The less you do, the more you’ll fit in. Gap is what happens when an entire company “quiet quits”.
In my division, the people DIRECTLY responsible for the product mistakes leading to poor sales (i.e bad print and color and unwearable styles) are still at the company.
There continues to be no accountability for bad leadership. The downward spiral continues on….
