Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Layoff Tip of The Week

If you’re an hourly employee make sure to use up as much “Sick Time” as you can before the layoff. Don’t take more than 2 days consecutively at any given time to be safe.

If your salary take some mental health days as needed, the names on the list are locked in at this point so WGAF.

We are starting to see some smoke signals at NRM that the RIFF maybe be sooner than the 22nd. Nothing confirmed yet and best of Luck to all fellow Gaters around the globe.

If you want to know how much STX is paying for your health insurance, just look on your paystub. On the right there's an entry called "US ER Med Cost". That should be the company pay side of you medical insurance. COBRA will be clost to that (plus your employee contribution).

No, no, no. W2 healthcare cost are after employeer contribution. Cobra is thr same plan but without employer contribution or group discount. Cobra is easily 2x what you've been paying.

Total health care cost is box DD on your W2. I’m assuming dividing this by 12 would be Cobra - and that you’d want to compare that to the open insurance market before signing - everyone will be a little different. Good luck all - surviving HDD layoffs here since the 90’s and I don’t think I’m going to still be around after this one - don’t fall into negativity nor face the prospect like a si--y is my general advice.

I believe Seagate is paying approx 80% of our health insurance costs.

So take the current monthly cost you pay for health insurance for your family through Seagate, multiply by 5, then add 10%. I think that should be a fair estimate for COBRA.

Anyone know what COBRA costs for a family?

I am going to miss all of giveaways. I still sleep with the all season blanket management gave us before the 2013 layoffs. It was nice of management to make sure I would be warm on the streets.

Good time to do eye exams, annual physicals, dental work, colonoscopy, and update all immunizations while the benefits last. Anything else?

My family completed it.

No need for hourly to burn up vacation time as that will be part of the payout for you. Salary is different as no time off is accrued so none on the book as being owned to you.
