Thread regarding CDW layoffs

Everyone is looking for a new job

I don't remember ever so many people looking to get out of here as soon as possible? Obviously, there are very few who think that better days are coming...

I've been with CDW for a few years after many years at a large OEM. The CDW org is just too slow to change, and much change is needed. Hard organizational and policy decisions need to be made at the top, but they seem reluctant to make the real needed changes. Lots of Execs and Senior Mgt are not equipped to deal with staffing, go-to-market strategies of the new IT marketplace. The Peter principle is alive and well. For the life of me, I don't understand why these people are in these positions. At my previous (larger) employer decisions were made and implemented very quickly. I fully believe that lack of action at the senior management level cost many competent and able CDW people their jobs. I've been quietly looking around and interviewing for a year, but in many cases it is much worse with other companies. Best thing I can do is to keep the Linkedin network alive and continue learning new skills. I truly feel bad for those that lost their jobs as it isn't their fault. I wish them well at their next opportunity.

I agree with the "Hang Fire" post everyone needs to just chill. Please don't criticize upper management as all the good they do and the value they provide and you'd probably miss the positive energy the CEO evokes compared to the vacuum cleaner sales pitch of competitors' top bananas.

Yeah. Also how many nightmare stories have we been reading in tech the past year about someone leaving a job for another only to find out the rescinded the job offer because of a hiring freeze?

Hang fire and take the (generous?) severance package if the worst should happen.

It is an interesting dilemma. People see the layoffs and automatically start searching for new positions, but the fact is, the larger tech companies are all laying folks off, freezing hiring, etc. with few exceptions. CDW's Q4 numbers were super strong, but they did resist layoffs until the end of Q1 unlike many firms. So the big question: do you take the risk and jump to one of those companies who may be hiring - where you're now the new guy and may be the first to get laid off if THEY have issues - or do you stick around CDW, knowing that if you do get laid off, you at least have some seniority and presumably your severance would be better? I'm cautiously looking but I try my hardest not to let emotions cloud my judgment.
