Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Just leave

To anyone still at TR, especially those posting to and checking this forum regularly, please update your resume and start networking. The culture is toxic, the leaders don’t value you, and there is A LOT more money and job satisfaction elsewhere. We all gave it the good college try, but it’s been nearly 3 years since the company took a turn for the worse and I can assure you it’s not going to get better. If you choose to stay and use this platform to voice your opinions rather than standing up to leadership or leaving, maybe you’re part of the problem…

I didn't realize how bad the work environment was until I was no longer in it. I didn't realize how toxic things were until I read up on the traits of a bad workplace and matched up what was happening at work with the warning traits listed. There was not one colleague to confide in because we were all in it and strived to remain positive while treading furiously to keep from overwhelm. To this day I wonder how a few existing former teammates can carry the tasks of so many who were laid off. Shareholders need to see this site for the real McKinsey OHI.

You’d best get out there fast. The company has been driven into the ground in the last 4 years, for a variety of reasons, mostly tied to very bad leadership and their related bad moves. I won’t elaborate but suffice it to say that the current mess could be a Harvard case study as an example of how companies sc--w up.

And the reputation nosedive is beginning to be noticed even outside of the current customer base, who noticed the mess a few years ago.

Left me clarify for those who downvoted me. I am not saying the people who have be hired are the problem.

It’s the size of the the replacement. Yes a good chunk of people were laid off and a lot were replaced by outsourcing.

Plus there is natural churn. A quick search shows that that 40% is easily 10%-15% higher than the average in the us over the last 3 years.

So when I mean it shows we have a problem its that yes nobody wants to work her any more (at an increasing amount) and the company is replacing people on purpose to line their greedy pockets.

40% of the company has been here less than 3 years.

We have had almost no change in total headcount in those 3 years.

Those two facts highlight the huge problems that a lot of these posts and complaints talk about.

Don’t give up. You can’t have a defeatist mentality. You have worked at a globally renowned company and put in your time. You have a leg up on the competition. You’ve got this! Be confident. It took months for me to find a great job (and salary), but it was worth it! Onward and upward.

I am trying hard to get out of this place, but no luck till now. The only motivation for me nowadays to be there is the 'free' headspace subscription :-)

If they offered me severance today I would 100% take it. My cubicle is all cleaned and ready.

It looks more and more likely that we will see a workforce reduction by the end of the year.

I volunteer as tribute

Don't believe the false narrative that jobs don't exist. That's just not true. Spend 5 minutes on any recruiting site and you'll see there are a LOT of people hiring right now. It took me all of 2 weeks to find a new job with better pay, benefits, hours, and most importantly leadership.

I agree with the original post...you want to stand up leadership? Leave. Enough good people walk out and even this regime will have to take accountability. No one will be left for them to steal ideas from and hide behind when OKRs fall flat.

Hard to "just leave" when a person has to compete with more and more people laid off from other companies. Stand up to leadership? Good luck with that when leadership only cares about stock price and cutting no-name positions. I say ride it out, and enjoy the severance when it comes.
