Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Hired as a remote employee

For now, my status seems very uncertain as to whether I will remain remote or not.
What worries me is how much more susceptible those who remain remote will be to getting rid of them in the foreseeable future?

They don’t want you to relocate. They want attrition.

Forced relocation with no guarantee of security after moving. I do not want to move to San Antonio, deal with the traffic, and lower quality of living only to be laid off shortly thereafter.

I wanted to be at USAA forever only after being hired to realize it is a nightmare. RTO is the last straw. I’m not uprooting my family for continued insecurity.

Many of us, if not most of us, remote workers, can't simply relocate to the nearest hub, even if the company pays for the relocation (highly unlikely). There are still plenty of remote work out there that I see anyway, at least for my line of work. I'd wait for the official communication before I start to apply. Worst comes to worst, if ever I need to relocate, I'd go with another company where I think I will have a great future. I have compromised my career growth with this remote work at USAA.

I don't think any one person's job is secure at USAA currently. Doesn't matter if you're remote, doesn't matter if you're the best performer on your team, doesn't matter your area, etc. USAA/Wayne has to cut a certain number of people and this RTO change is just one of his levers.

Same here, feels like a forced relocation is a possibility.
