Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

New: 2 days in office per week

For BUs that haven’t been going in twice a week - how does this change impact you? By June 1 all locations will have ICs come twice a week, and managers three times a week.

The more I think about this and the other post about potential May layoffs the more this feels like a soft layoff tactic.

If this this really enforced, people will leave for sure. Even if it’s 1%-2% that is 250-500 less folks. Additionally that means a whole lot that the company does not need to pay in severance.

It’s sort of rich to me that the FAQs acknowledge that some people would end up going into an office and still not seeing any one else they work with and the answer was basically “do it for the networking.”

I've been going to the office whenever I can since COVID fears subsided. I would love to connect with people, but hardly anyone is ever there. Even when people are there, they aren't people I collaborate with. Yeah, it would be great to have water cooler convos with people in my business unit, but it isn't relevant to my job, and I'm not going to expect them to commute just to see me and gossip. I don't work directly with one single person in my office. I am not trying to buck the system, but I can recognize a pointless time sink when I see one. If this is a veiled excuse to shutter physical office locations, just tell us already and stop making us drive in no matter what the reason.

I'm willing to bet a large amount of people will ignore that email. It seems conflicting. It says people want to connect, yet hardly anyone is even going in to the office. Seems they don't understand what kind of connection people want.

I will look for a different job if I’m required to come in 2 days/week to attend Teams meetings with my colleagues overseas. Make it make sense!

I wouldn't worry about this if you are in the US. You will not be around long for it to make much of an impact to your TR career.
