Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

San Ramone Collapse

News today is a 70% reduction in our space and staff in San Ramone. ChevPark is ancient history. It will be renamed The Orchards because it was a bunch of pickle orchards originally. I guess Chevron Way will be renamed Dill Drive. No more ChevBurger in the cafeteria, grilled by an angry lady.

We are a company without a proper headquarters at this stage, adrift in random rented space, senior executives circling the lot for a parking spot.

A few pickle trees might look good on my front lawn to provide shade for my alligators.

A Chevron employee who can't spell the simple name of the city where their headquarters is located and thinks pickles are grown in an orchard.
No words......

"We are a company without a proper headquarters at this stage, adrift in random rented space,..." This is just the "transformation" stage to an eventual Houston headquarters (as mentioned elsewhere, once all the California-rooted management retires). The days of kowtowing to the "California presence" are slowly coming to an end.

TIL pickles grow on trees or bushes.

Am I the only one around here who has never heard of a pickle orchard?

Perhaps this is the new headquarters in Perth, Western Australia.

I can’t decide if the commute hour traffic is worse in Houston or San Ramen.

Proud of our California heritage and how it differentiated us from the other majors. Chevron is all class.

No surprise - Chevron is not-so-subtly distancing itself from SR. Only thing still holding us there is the MW generation of executives waiting to retire.

Yet they are still there. Houston is not “refined” enough for these folks. One of their worst fears is sweating in those expensive clothes and they won’t be able to escape that with the humidity! They are really locked into California for that reason.

I agree - they should at least have the HQ in space we own and control. Move it to Richmond, El Segundo or Houston. It's sad how low we have gone at this stage. Most of the executives travel or work from home so they don't really care what the office looks like. For important meetings they normally just use the local Marriott Hotel or another rentable venue at Biship Ranch. I guess we won't even have a board room anymore, just use a hotel somewhere.

I remember the glory days of glamorous HQ buildings. Chevron in SF, Texaco in NY and Unocal in LA. The famous mid-century Union76 building had an amazing top floor and the board room had a full bar, oriental styling (including an asian bartender!), and views for miles.

Sorry but presence in CA can no longer be justified. The party's over.
