Thread regarding Gap Inc. layoffs

Gap Inc made a huge mistake

They are doing layoffs in rounds. So this week was Sourcing Hub layoff and restructure. Next week is HQ, and beginning of may is Finance.

Do they seriously think people will do any work now? Way to pay for labor with no results… another wonderful example of the “leadership” driving Gap Inc into the ground.

Who makes these decisions?

All the best folks! Keep in mind that you did your best and it's not your fault in anyway.

It's the couple of people who sit on the highest floors of a building responsible for the poor decisions made and the money wasted on useless stuff. In order to save their skin, other innocent people are now being butchered.

In the retail sector, Gap is another sinking ship. It can only be turned around by a miracle. After a couple of years of watching this circus show, I am glad that I left it. Since then, nothing has changed and colleagues still complain about the same old issues.

Now, Gap is far behind in the race. If they don't pay attention to their main core business, they won't be able to compete with other players in the market. Poor management system, lack of decision making, office politics, and too much reliance on vendors etc. Factors that existed in the past and remain. The fact that people are clinging to this sinking ship despite knowing that it will sink any day baffles me. This was bound to happen. There hasn't been a CEO hired yet to steer it out of these hard waters.

Keep your cool and this phase will also pass too. You deserve better than this. God bless us all.

Echoing the sentiments of the recent comments, it’s not the be all end all. Know that we all came in and gave 100% every day and it’s someone else’s loss to lose valuable employee. It is also a harsh reminder that we are just a number for most company.

That said, there are places out there that will value the skills and attitude you bring. It might not be tomorrow or the next week, but keep your heads up!

Good luck all.

Glad I left years ago.
Same story different day with Gap inc.
Always the next season saves the company. Death by a thousand cuts. You
Company definitely needs to trim the layers & it operates in an archaic management style.
As others have noted, after this round, be prepared in a few months for additional. Definitely not the best of times to be looking for a job too.

Been keeping an eye on this thread and just want everyone to know that regardless of what happens, it will all be ok (maybe won’t feel like it tomorrow, or the next day, but it will be ok). We are experiencing the reality of doing business in 2023. A good time to remind ourselves that our jobs don’t define our value as a person. Sending a big hug to all. Be kind to yourselves!

There is a tense and dull atmosphere in the office. On 27th and 28th, people are requested not to come to office. Layoffs will be announced during these days. All are keeping their fingers crossed. It doesn't matter if you are a big shot or a small member, everyone has their job on line. Even if one is not laid off, the situation does not improve much. There will still be a fear of layoffs. For a while, it might be a respite and sigh of relief. Best wishes to all of us. Don't stress out, keep safe, and keep looking for better opportunities. There is more to life than this rat race.
