Why is the IBM Building’s parking lot always empty?

Way to manage your assets, IBM!

"CLEVELAND, Ohio — A five-year-old office building is seemingly deserted, despite sitting at one of Cleveland’s busiest intersections. So why does the IBM Building on Cedar Avenue always have an empty parking lot?

It’s a muddied answer, and different depending on which day you ask IBM."

"IBM spokesperson Carrie Bendzsa said the company is still renting the building and that a few employees use it regularly. When asked if IBM had plans for the building, she declined to share any other information.

Cleveland City Council President Blaine Griffin, who represents Ward 6 and the area near this building, said he has driven by the building and wondered why it was empty."

Are any IBM facilities NOT like this? In "RTP" (both campuses) it's remained about 15% on any given day.

To wit they have somewhat thrown in the towel and have asked everybody "will you be in 3 or more days per week? If yes then you'll have an assigned desk. If no your seat is surrendered and you'll hot desk with the Trigigigigigigiga (yeah that one) app.

As part of this ALL of 500 and Main campuses are being packed into buildings 500 and 503 of the 500 complex. Only exceptions are labs themselves and some key folks associated with them.

So Main campus, aside from labs, will have empty buildings at environmental stabilization level while they try to lease them (good luck right now!) NewCo remains in part of Main as well.

500 campus will have 501 and 502 buildings environmentally stabilized and perhaps leased.

You can visually get a handle on occupancy by viewing the weedy vs driven parts of all the parking lots (yeah, its bad).

This sounds like the classic IBM tax scam, like they pulled in: Baton Rouge, LA; Davenport, IA; Buffalo, NY, etc. etc. etc.

The stupid state and local politicians fall for this scam time and time again. IBM "promises" to bring a bunch of jobs to some dilapidated city, in exchange for huge tax concessions. AND THEN IBM just reneges on the promise, with no consequences, with the same 'ol excuse: "So sorry, business conditions have changed, please forgive us."
