Trying to get a promotion

My question for the more experienced here - is it even worth trying to get a promotion at BofA?
I'm not a person who exaggerates everything he does and tries to look busier than he is, but it seems to me that this is one of the key things when it comes to getting promoted.

You only get promoted if you’re good with SLT. Hard work and being good at your job just gets you more work, nothing else. I quiet quit after being one of the highest performers on my team and being told they couldn’t give me the money because the poor economy. Fck you, the economy didn’t stop me from being a high performer so don’t give me that sht. So to answer your question, hard if you don’t network and kiss azz.

Executives are told to aim for zero expense growth YOY. Knowing 50% in GTO get merit raises YOY, its almost impossible to promote even qualified ppl due to the expense targets. You will likely get laid off regardless of your promotion, once you reach that high comp range. its a losing proposition for everyone including employees and managers.

if you want a promotion... (which is very, very difficult just now given the expense pressure), then you need to kiss azz, "exaggerate everything and look busier", then kiss more azz. You essentially answered your own question.

You do realize a promotion does not come with an automatic pay increase, right?

If you want a promotion (even to next band, b/c all the bands overlap), they'll just give you a fancier title to shut you up.

If you want more money, that is an entirely different conversation. Ask your manager what you need to do to earn an increase in salary. Make them outline it for you in very specific terms.

A lot easier just to kiss azz and be one of airhead favorites. That's how a lot of B3s and b2s got to where they are. (and they are still kissing azz to stay there)

I completely agree with @1yar+1mZfvWIL. I've been successful in my career with numerous promotions making $150+ after 25 years in IT. I'm quiet and not outspoken kissing anyone's bu-t but I've always made sure whatever quality is acceptable for the team and management that I'll be at the very top. I suggest process improvements to my manager and actively identify/implement the steps to show it's a better way that helps in some way. I make myself an expert in something critical the team must do, and even better if I have exposure to lots of teams beyond my area.

Whatever area you're in, I'm sure if want the promotion the things I suggest above will help you get noticed by the people making decisions. And if BofA doesn't appreciate your effort, I promise your next employer will when you tell them how your experience can help them.

Try to find ways you can improve process. Be proactive and look for opportunities to differentiate yourself from your teammates. Be consistent with your 1:1 conversations with your manager. Find ways to add value and it will happen for you.

You have to kiss azz to get promoted in this company. There are so many incompetent people that are being promoted here in this shlithole bank. Many of them are non-English speaking or just meet the diversity requirement. I am not impressed with the leadership here at all.
