Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

How to make it through the week?

I absolutely agree that it's become very difficult to make it trough the week here. I don't think it was ever harder than it is now?

" As bad as we think it is, it’s not"

Agreed.

It's worse.

What kind of subhuman sweatshops did you previously work at man?

Do you not know anybody that works professionally literally ANYWHERE else?

You think the way this current fiasco has been rolled out is some kind of "best business practice"?

"There is no leadership."

I agree. They are no leaders anymore. Managers, sure, but no leaders.

“Rare is the place you can set roots for 10-20-30 years. That’s reality.”

The reality is , there is no long term path here for anyone, anymore… “That’s Reality” folks.

Same as any other day. That’s how you make it through. This isn’t going to be popular to say, but most folks working here have had a career and have been very fortunate to work at the same place as long as they have. As bad as you think it is, it really is pretty dang good over here. Those of us that came from other companies know that there is no such thing as job security and what a really toxic workplace looks like. Come to work on Friday and see people get walked out the door. I was laid off 5 times at 5 different companies before landing here. This is what it’s like outside this bubble. As bad as we think it is, it’s not. Disappointing yes, being scared to go buy a car because you don’t know if this day or this week is your last is how most workers live at other places. Rare is the place you can set roots for 10-20-30 years. That’s reality.

It’s been hard to focus after hearing “the role is the priority, not the person”.

Compassion and humanity has left the building.

Only this week? How about this whole month?

I feel you, the motivation to work has gone out the window after hearing news of a return to the office and additional surplus at the end of the month. I am sick to my stomach knowing that everyone else feels the same and we can't stay focused as a company. This is at no fault of our own, and yet we get the short end of the stick. I have been with ATT for 23 years, and at the beginning of my career thought I would retire here. I would hazard to guess there are quite a few of me around here that thought the same. Face it, ATT is a sinking ship, much like how General Electric failed.

Oh there are plenty of words from leadership in sales like “if you aren’t pulling you’re weight maybe you need to rethink your job here” let’s not mention the fact that our job changes every day, we have no direction, quotas keep increasing despite lack of performance and their is absolutely zero hope for the future

"And there is hardly a word from leadership of any kind."

There is no leadership.

Agreed. It seems to be affecting everybody. I would routinely get anywhere from 40 to 150 plus emails a day.

It's been reduced to a slow trickle since all this cr-p came out... And there is hardly a word from leadership of any kind.

Agreed this is difficult. It's like working for George Orwell in 1984, though at the end (spoiler alert) I know I won't love Big Brother.

I almost....no I actually do....think it would have been easier to just have had a swift and brutal force reduction instead of this force reduction disguised as "collaboration" that's an insult to our intelligence.

I wonder if any of those well-paid board members read any of this or ever talk to employees who actually generate revenue to support their stake in the company. This stuff doesn't sell itself or keep itself running. A lot of key people will be leaving and though no individual is irreplaceable (except of course John Stankey), the collective loss of knowledge will have an effect on revenue.
