Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Leaks

I’m shocked how tight lipped the RTO timeline is. Usually there’s some sort of idea or leak. My director and AVP seem to be totally in the dark. Anyone else?

Welcome to our wonderful new world of "collaboration".

I heard that none of JS DR’s knew of this announcement until it dropped. They are scrambling to understand and figure out how it affects their BU

“You will get notification from your manager, where you need to report by the end of 2023. If you say you're not moving, you're off payroll in 2 weeks with severance. If you say "I'm moving" and then don't. You're off payroll with NO severance. So, are you going to work 6 months for 6 months pay, or leave in 2 weeks, with 6 months pay?“

For those that have met RO75, there is also the question of whether you leave in two weeks and live with the reduced lump sum pension based on November 2022 IRS rates, or hang in there another six months or so hoping the November 2023 IRS rates turn out in your favor

The fewer people that know the details, the easier it is to figure out who leaked them.

Especially if you provide different details to said few individuals. Dead simple to identify the leaker then.

"Lots are planning to say they will move and then not move."

here's what we were told about the first wave.

You will get notification from your manager, where you need to report by the end of 2023. If you say you're not moving, you're off payroll in 2 weeks with severance. If you say "I'm moving" and then don't. You're off payroll with NO severance. So, are you going to work 6 months for 6 months pay, or leave in 2 weeks, with 6 months pay?

“ Unless you have a very unique set of skills/experience that are in high demand in job searches, don’t move. You will be let go eventually and the skills you’ve learned at ATT will be difficult to transpose in another career.”

This is exactly why I wouldn’t move even if I wanted to. I’m not uprooting my family for a job where I have ZERO guarantee that I’ll be employed in six months or a year.

"Lots are planning to say they will move and then not move."

They have to make it so that telling them the truth and getting severance puts more money in your pocket than lying and quitting at the last minute. Otherwise why would we be honest with them?

Hopefully someone up there is smart enough to realize that they have no power over people who see themselves as gone already. And hopefully Stankey can stop being d-mb for a few minutes and listen to that person.

Lots are planning to say they will move and then not move. This will get people past bonus time - more money out the door

Isn’t any info, it’s all being led from the top. They don’t know, so they aren’t saying much other than what’s been said. June 16th is what we’ve all heard, July 10th in office for atlanta and Dallas, Sept for others. Though they can’t even tell us which office to report to in Atlanta. Not that there’s enough room for those here as is, much less everyone else. It’s going to be interesting

We got timelines in the JVB org recently. July 7 we get the notice of whether we are office or virtual and if you get to stay in your current location. Give individuals 2 weeks to decide. If you don’t want to relo you’ll be on payroll till “end of year” - no definitive month yet but maybe through November latest December. If you decide to relocate you have up till August 2024. Relo packages uncertain, exceptions uncertain. Now my two cents: Unless you have a very unique set of skills/experience that are in high demand in job searches, don’t move. You will be let go eventually and the skills you’ve learned at ATT will be difficult to transpose in another career. Think anything professional or senior program manager, marketing lead, supply chain, lifecycle manager, product manager, sales execution… all internal efforts that would be difficult to repurpose elsewhere. Don’t quit, start investing in yourself between now and end of year (I get it, little time to do so but point is do something to be relevant in the job hunt), get your severance and whatever pension you can rollover, and good luck. We’re all in this sh-t show together.

Hard to understand the AVP being in the dark. Leadership is spending hours on planning (if you call it that) to comply with the master’s orders.

I've heard the same lack of information from manager and director levels across multiple orgs. They have no answers

This is a mess that Stankey created. I guess HR and CRE are stressed what do do to make RTO happen. Different orgs have different goals. ATS added Chicago as coe and moved to stage 2. Wonder if that will save people or there will be regular layoff notices in chicago instead of relocation.

" ATS has posted that this is NOT happening"

You need to understand that not all organizations will be doing the same thing. By a long shot. So don't look to what other large orgs outside of your own are doing, hoping to gain any insight.

Service Delivery Q&A yesterday had HR person on to answer questions and said “those within 50 miles of Atlanta or Dallas will be notified June 30, those in the other 7 hubs will be notified July 31”

I truly believe that my L3 boss does not know any more than we do. The only thing they are saying is that they are awaiting official (people here keep saying it's a "letter") notification of office indicator status for everyone (June 16) AND official notification as to what the additional acceptable "field" office locations that will be added are. That's it.

If there are no additional "field" locations added, and no exceptions on the 10% only for TW rule, my large team simply ceases to exist (over 60% of several hundred employees are not near "hubs"). And a whole lot of critical work simply stops. And I for one will be fine with that. I'll take my severance and smell ya later.

"I saw that notices of final designations are going out on the 16th."

ATS has posted that this is NOT happening. Courtesy notification from supervisor by the 22nd, formal letter "later in summer".

I saw that notices of final designations are going out on the 16th. It probably won't be locked in until end of the month.

They made it pretty well known that Atlanta and Dallas are set to come back in the first part of July, and everywhere else will be September.

They don't know how to make it work the way Stankey wants it to. No room in the buildings and a lot of really important people are not going to follow the work.

They're not tight-lipped, there just isn't any final info.
