Two people in management roles in my org said they “heard” there will be another VBO this year. I don’t buy it. We are still reeling from the last VBO and people are taking lateral moves to get out of our group. Backlogs are insane. Anyone hear anything??

"You are the id--t that overpays for everything some con salesperson offers you."
Sorry the message is the responsibility of the sender and I did not at all make my point clear at all given your reply. I was not referencing at all anything that a sales person would shill. I'm talking about companies hiring talented developers to do the work at hand in the most efficient manner. If you want scalable, supportable and understandable software solutions the price/hour cannot be a factor because you get what you pay for.
Hope this is more clear.
"There is one global truth here.... you get what you pay for very simple. "
You are the id--t that overpays for everything some con salesperson offers you.
wow......
"can do the same work for less $$$."
There is one global truth here.... you get what you pay for very simple.
"They want to get rid of white men. So, yeah, a VBO makes sense. "
No you ignorant racist they don't. They want to reduce payroll and offload older higher paid employees that can be replaced with younger employees that can do the same work for less $$$.
They want to get rid of white men. So, yeah, a VBO makes sense.
One month closer, keep watching here.
Watch this space for announcements in early 24
VBO in 2021 didn’t yield the reduction they hoped for reducing male percentages. Fidelity has its plan it started in 2017 and thinks longer term than 2021. I would expect another opportunity in 24, 25 the latest.
rumors are warming up
There is a desire to improve the D&I numbers. So, yes, the implication is that most people taking the VBO will be disproportionately white men.
ESG requirements are relentless, and a shortcut to getting there is VBO'ing the last of the older white men.
I am hearing more skuttlebutt about a VBO in 2024.
I must have missed the 2015 and 2012 and 2009 vbo's then if they're every three years.
Hahaha, jealous!
"Collecting checks," sounds like something deadwood does. Also calling BS on you're "hearing" about an extra bonus. You never hear when the extra bonus' are coming. They do a good job of keeping that under wraps, until they release the money. Be grateful you work for a generous company.
I’m still happily collecting my checks while VBOers are wishing to be back at this great company. The deadwood is gone and this company is thriving. In addition we are doing so well I’m hearing there will be an extra bonus this summer.
Ab, full disclosure I took the 2021 VBO. I can totally empathize with the OP since the majority of my department took the 2017 VBO and I had a ridiculous workload when they left.
I know this thread has gotten off track, but in 2021 there were some posts on this website that called that VBO a few months and weeks before it happened. But I agree with others that said if it hasn't already been offered by now, it probably won't this year.
Well CoolBeans, I already got mine, thank you very much.
The last 2 were at 5 year intervals so we would have 3 more years from June 30th.
It does make sense that they would offer them around the same time due to how their fiscal cycle works and other important dates they keep the same.
Both of the previous 2 VBO's (full sample) were offered in March. Most people were gone on 6/30, small groups were extended to 9/30 and 12/31. I hope you get your VBO but based on the full sample it is not going to happen this year.
"It means you don't understand statistics and probability. A sample size of 2 is not enough upon which to base a conclusion."
Well Ab, I see your point. I do hope you get a VBO this year.
Why not ask HR?
""You are lacking a proper sample size to draw such a conclusion."
What does that mean?"
It means you don't understand statistics and probability. A sample size of 2 is not enough upon which to base a conclusion.
"You are lacking a proper sample size to draw such a conclusion."
What does that mean? I bet VBO'er's opinion that an offer would have happened already is based on the pattern of the previous 2 VBOs. Each offer was initially extended in early March, and the exit date for most that took it was June 30. There were alot of informational sessions that went on between those dates, and deadlines to sign documents. Not to say it couldn't be done later in the year, but it is no small thing to coordinate.
" Based on the previous VBO's they would have already been offered if they were going to do one this year."
You are lacking a proper sample size to draw such a conclusion.
Don't count on VBO rumors. It can be VERY frustrating when they don't happen. Based on the previous VBO's they would have already been offered if they were going to do one this year.
and those in between
Ok, ok, I’m still collecting my checks boys and girls.
Regarding: “I’m still collecting my checks boys”
DID YOU JUST ASSUME OUR GENDER?!?! Better take another HR training bucko.
I’m still collecting my checks boys! Sorry for the VBOers!
I don't miss Fidelity. Lots of propaganda artists feeding the green machine
There is some smoke starting to appear.
I heard ufo's are real too.
I took the VBO in 21. I feel they moved up the offer schedule due to pandemic with hopes of getting higher acceptance rates. The offer was right for me and I believe the firm will continue VBO programs in the future. VBO goals are to reduce per head cost and enable them to hire more younger and a diverse work force. Try and wait it out, absolutely the best way to leave Fidelity after a long career.
Haven’t heard, in fact a colleague of mine who was holding out just quit
So no one else has heard anything or ?
Get the facts straight.
The first VBO was 2017. So quickly we forget the year that work became so difficult for many of us, until 2021 came along.
simply because the two previous VBOs were 3 years apart does not mean "VBO happens every 3 years".
Next one could be 2 years, 3 years, 4 years or never.
VBO happens every 3 years. Last one was 2021, before that 2018. Next one is 2024
