Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

RTO Vs Surplus

After watching the open mic ACE town hall today, so many questions about RTO, but not a single question about the pending Q2 surplus. It seems to me that the Q2 surplus will have a lot more impact on ACE, but is being over shadowed by RTO. Even office water cooler talk is RTO and little about Q2 surplus that is about to drop. So with that said any good Q2 surplus news?

Agree to disagree, the majority of ACE are field facing and location will not change. The number of days they are to report to that location will increase, but still be lease than prepandemic. However they will have to pick up the work left behind by this surplus, let alone the work absorbed by Q1 surplus.

Messing with people’s work locations negatively impacts everyone and has no rational purpose. Layoffs affect a small number of people and the purpose is well understood. Therefore RTO is much more damaging to morale.

ACE span of control is way off for engineering supposed to be 15 to 1. At current eng headcount they are over by over dozen level 2s

ACE, Strong rumor of increased span of control for those left after a reduction of 1 AVP, 1 director, 1 or 2 area managers, unknown 1st levels in construction and possibly another 8 engineers in the SE.

They said 9 of 10 employees in ACE are in roles that serve the market locally and will not have to move to Dallas/ATL.

They defended the 3 days/week RTO policy as a good company man should do.

They used word soup to basically say that yes investors matter more than employees and customers. They know how it is and at least didn't straight up lie.

Also sort of obfuscated employee tracking (badge swipes/LAN tracking) as something that your management should be doing and any discipline would be handled on lower level at their discretion, but they at their level wouldn't issue any guidance on it.

Honestly, it was one of the better town halls as far as honesty goes.

I'll take the 5-5-5 if only it were true! Unfortunately, in my business unit, they're still hiring technicians so a VTP is certainly out of the question! Time to bail out...

Can they do that? Take the 5-5-5 offer.

ACE surplus with notice date 6/22 and off payroll date of 7/6 was kicked off before all the RTO stuff so is essentially a separate thing. Also don’t forget span of control exercises, so some managers will be surplussed or downgraded and teams consolidated etc. Unfortunately for everyone it’ll be one kick (surplus, span changes, in some markets/groups it’s big) and then another (now go back to the office). Just like many things round here these days, it was not carefully coordinated or master planned.

But what did they say about RTO? Typical non answers?

RTO will force some people to leave. Surplus is a separate plan that is not related to the RTO initiative. There will be a surplus along with RTO.

Two different processes happening in parallel during June/July time-frame.

There is so much confusion right now most employees are just trying to make it through each week. This is certainly how I feel!

"RTO is just another way to perform surplus, without severance and unemployment benefits."

Holy cr-p, in every thread there is this one guy...

RTO is just another way to perform surplus, without severance and unemployment benefits. You should always operate with the mentality that you will get laid off.
